Backups at last !

Those of you not reading the Universal forum might be interested to know that there is at last a solution to backup problems on the Wizard!

It comes in the form of Sunnysoft Backup Manager (now updated for WM5) and the free 14 day trial version is available HERE.

I can't see a way to backup to the network though, only the device itself or Mini SD card.

Experimenting with it as I type but all seems to be working ok!

Looks alot like sprite's software offering (its a shame they havent released a WM5 update as yet).

Anyway something I noticed they have missed is calculating the space needed for the backup prior to starting the process which doesnt make sense.

As a test I backed up to a storage card that had little memory konwing that the backup file may be too large... the backup started then about 2 thirds of the process stops reporting insufficient memory. And another thing it would be good if there was a status bar so you could see the overall progress of the backup... think I will pass those coments off to the developers.

I'll quote young Luke Skywalker here:

What a piece of junk!!!

Installed it, backed up, restored... worked ok... except now my calendar and messages doesn't work. and for that matter, neither does the actual phone function! convoluted to use, utterly useless.

It didn't even get all my colours right. and yes, i did select all th right things to backup.

how did you find it xspyda? i think i'll wait for something a bit better. an imaging program, or at least something that's as good as the old microsoft wm2003 version.

Hurry up sprite, it's the only backup solution I want to try, they had an excellent Smartphone Version that gave me piece of mind so I could try anything on my phone (except how water proof it is) and awlays be able to restore back exactly the way it was.

I too will be waiting for the Sprite offering which surely MUST be in the pipeline! I was not at all impressed by this - in fact, uninstalled it after the 1st backup attempt went wrong due to lack of memory. As someone else pointed out, this is an oversight. Any piece of s/ware worth its salt would check this before commencing the backup, not report a failure part way through.

Found it by reading the Universal forum (as I used to have this handset also before it went on eBay).

Still ... we wait for a solution - sorry folks!

Keep the candles burning for sprite, got home to an email with a link to the BETA version of Sprite for WM5, will let you know how the testing goes, apparently it's licensed till Jan 2006 if that's any indication of a time frame.

Could still be out before xmas, maybe?

what's sprite like? i'd like something like the windows one. here's how it worked:

1. Set to do incremental backup on every sync.

2. Get home, sync, drink a coke.

3. Get on with life. A few days later, restore backup if needed.

It's all very simple... surely there's something that will act that way? It was perfect every time.

^ Yup that's what this version of sprite does. At the moment it's looking good as far as functionality's concerned. Will let you know more if I hear anything.
