i know lots of people are leaving orange but if they were coming out with it, it might change their mind...

According to some comms engineers i know, the answer is never... Edge is a stepping stone to propper 3G and isn't likely to be used in the UK (apart from a very small test network)

so why the hell did orange say for the supposidly releasing C600 that it suppots edge? wish they would have put in Wifi instead tbh....

i had it on semi good authority that it'll be next year...probably toward the end.

We do a lot of pure data stuff at work and EDGE is likle to be implemented for industrial applications. I dont know how the networks will present the capability but the infrastructure is rolling out, albeit not extensivly at the moment...

Orange has an Edge test network up and running, dont know if they will go public because of the huge amounts they paid for 3g licences.

I think most operators are concetrating on their 3g neworks and adding things like HSDPA upgrades (3mbits/s ish),

Edge is good tho means your phone can be smaller and you can stay on the GSM networks---if they did release it you bet it will be more expensive than 3g data.

Highspeed downlink packet access, basically you can think of it like GPRS is for a 2G network. Vodafone currently have it running on their network, first in the country I believe ;-)

Someone mentioned that T-mobile UK have EDGE running...

I dunno if it's true, but I do know that my MDA Vario is a major amount faster at downloading web pages than my E200 on Orange was... don't know how much of it is down to the speed of rendering the pages, it just seems a lot quicker at downloading. But it also says it's using GPRS.
