Guest yayson Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 (edited) I was trying to change the default screens I get when powering up and off from the generic Cingular graphics to ones I made by just replacing Poweroff_Screens.gif and Powerup_Screens.gif in /Windows directory. The first time I tried it and powered off it worked! When I powered it back on however, and off again, both those screens were back to the generic Cingular screens. I assume there's a file I need to edit somewhere and if it's possible I'd love to be able to use a different format besides a GIF to get a smaller filesize as well. I'm *completely* new to smartpphones, just purchased one a few days ago (Cingular Audiovox SMT 5600) and haven't had much chance to muck around with it yet so any extraneous tips would be welcome too! thanks :) Edited December 15, 2005 by yayson
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Welcome to the site :D You can not replace any file in the main Windows folder as it gets rewritten on every startup. What you need to is place the image you want to use in another location then alter the registry to use that image. This guide may help you :) http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=88771
Guest yayson Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 (edited) Fantastic! Yet another toy to hack! Any advice on backing up and restoring a good phone before I go to futzing with it's nervous system? I've just installed the PHM RegEditor and am trying to export the registry after a few backup attempts failed without a decent reason why. It's taking fo_eva, beginning to wonder if I'm havin my first Windows Mobile HangFreeze. edit: a few more: what the * is IPSM? is there a n00b guide or FAQ around that I'm not finding? Thanks for the welcome and advice! Edited December 15, 2005 by yayson
Guest yayson Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 (edited) ah well, I did the dumb thing and forged ahead without answers and all worked out fine anyhoo :) for the sake of future searches, my path on this audiovox running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition was /Storage/My Documents/cusom/mygif.gif where the dir "custom" was one I made to plunk this mod stuff into as I manfufacture it...
