Guest SMS720 Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Hi I have received my new Orange SPV C600 this morning - its so cool the screen is just great. I run an Exchange 2003 Server at home (for my business) which is left on all the time. What I wondered is this, if I used a bluetooth dongle and ActiveSync installed on this server can I setup periodic automatic synchronization with my new phone and Exchange whilst I am in range of the Bluetooth? Just to be clear I DON'T want synchronisation via GPRS - just purely synchronization with an account on Exchange whilst I am in the house over Bluetooth. Thanks in advance. Simon

I don't have the C600, only the C500 but I guess the principle is the same that direct ActiveSync between the phone and the server is over IP and so I believe that synching as you describe is not possible. However... thinking off the top of my head over lunch, what you could do is sync with a PC that is connected to the server using bluetooth? (Of course, you won't be wanting to install Outlook on the server itself. ) Not much help, sorry.
Guest mossywell Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 direct ActiveSync between the phone and the server is over IP and so I believe that synching as you describe is not possible <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ... unless someone knows how to run IP over bluetooth :??:
Guest SMS720 Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Thanks for the reply. I have thought about this some more and after installing ActiveSync 4.1 on my workstation I can see how it will work. ActiveSync can synchronise with an Exchange Server 2003 directly and has a schedule option which links to bluetooth. So provided I can install ActiveSync and my bluetooth dongle on a 2K3 Server I should be ok. I have ordered a bluetooth usb dongle today (and 1GB mini-SD card :)) so I will try over the weekend and let you know how I get on. Cheers Simon
Guest SMS720 Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 OK an update. I have successfully installed ActiveSync 4.1 on my Win2K3 server and paired it with my mobile via a Bluetooth USB dongle. So basically when I am in range (i.e. in the house) the Exchange Server syncs with the phone every 30 mins, which is exactly what I wanted. However the only thing that concerns me is that when I was fiddling around with settings over the weekend I managed to get my phone synchronizing with my Exchange server over GPRS (i.e. costing me money!) which I don't want. The only problem is when I am out of range of bluetooth the sync every 30 mins option seems to be stored on my phone as well as ActiveSync, so will my phone then use GPRS to carry on synching when I am out of the house? I will test this out, but would appreciate anyones input who has tried this or has more knowledge than myself (not difficult!) Thanks Simon
Guest SMS720 Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Another update, Yes when out of range of bluetooth the phone continues to synchronize with my exchange server over GPRS, so question is how do I disable my GPRS, so that I can easily re-enable it whenever I do want to use it? Thanks Simon
