Guest vaughn89 Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Hi, I have just got my t-mobile MDA Vario, and have tried to connect via wi-fi to my 'Belkin ASDL modem with wireless G router' i am using 128 WEP, and it accepts the password, but on connecting i recieve the error 'Pocket PC Networking- Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings' the router is b/g compatible and i have tried it in b/g and b only modes with no sucess. My router assigns IP's by DHCP, automaticly for the 3 PC's and Laptop currently on the network. Please help.
Guest cclboss Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 I would try to connect without password protection first so to make sure things are working correctly. The most likely scenario is wrong password as I think you need to make sure you are entering HEX equivalent password as opposed to ASCII. Also not sure if 128 bit security is supported or not. I use 40 bit WEP password.
Guest vaughn89 Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Ok, tried without password and it works! i think you have got the problem in one. Thanks for your help and quick reply. :)

Guest devasoftware Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 I cannot connect to my 3Com OfficeConnect 11g ADSL wireless router with any form of security. It's appears to be a fault with the DHCP server in it. (backed up by other users on the net) I can connect with security disabled, the router offers an IP address and my Vario accepts it - all is fine... I try connecting with security enabled (WPA, WEP etc) and the rouer offers an IP address (as seen in the router log) but the Vario doesn't accept it for some reason! No one seems to have a solution, and since the router is out of warranty 3Com dont want to know :) Bummer... Guest vaughn89 Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 Hi, it seems that problem was similar to mine- i have resolved the issue now; it seems i was not entering the HEX equivelent password for my router, i was entering the 'passphrase' that i put into the routers utility to generate the HEX code. Putting this HEX code directly in as the password (rarther than the 'passphrase') for the network worked fine, and i now have a functional network connection with 128 WEP encryption. - hope it helps 8)

Guest devasoftware Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 MANY thanks for that link... But... unfortunately having fixed IP addresses doesn't seem to work for me at all  I'll have to contact 3Com and/or T-Mobile to see if they have a fix for the IPv6 issue. At least I know why now ;) Cheers, Andy Hey Andy - see here: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=234560 <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
