Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Hard Reset the M500, turn the phone off, then press the reset button (under the bottom flap) whilst holding the power button down.

Guest Pondrew Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Hey Gibster. You're talking about preventing the extended rom from installing which can be done by hard resetting the device and then doing a normal reset before the customisation runs. This will prevent the extended rom from installing. We at Modaco don't recommend doing this as the extended rom includes bug fixes, patches and apps that were not meant to be optional. If you do decide to go ahead (and you do this at your own risk) then after doing it you could use a program called Total Commander to access the extended rom for any thing you did then want to install from there...
Guest chucky.egg Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Having done it myself I would say it's worth it for the extra space, but there are issues You need to be comfortable with: Installing apps from CAB files on the phone Backing Up or Sync'ing your data Hard Resets and Soft Resets Reading the many posts on this subject to understand what you're doing Fixing the odd things that might happen as a result, and you may not be able to get much support here because the combination of apps you end up with may be unique Most importantly you can kiss goodbye to any support that Orange may (and I should stress, may) have provided If you're new to all this (and it sounds like you are) I'd wait a bit until you know what apps you actually want on the phone, and are comfortable with the whole process. If it all goes horribly wrong another Hard Reset puts it all back to normal.
