Guest merrick Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 I can't set up a partnership between my pc and C600. Activesync 4.0 kicks in when I plug the phone into the USB port and then it just stays on "Connecting..." When I plug in my E100 or Jam it brings up the 'Start a new partnership' wizard no problem so what's wrong with the C600? I've uninstalled Activesync, re-installed, rebooted the computer, hard reset the phone, but still no joy, it's driving me nuts! Any ideas?
Guest Tech Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 try plugging in the USB cable into another port on the PC and see what happens. If its still the same issue - try doing this on another computer if it is still causing the problem then the phone appears to be faulty.
Guest martinr Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 I had a similar set of problems with active sync. I don't know about the other two devices you mention - E100 or Jam - are they WM5 or 2003 devices? I had no problem with an older 2003 device, but it wouldn't work with WM5. First thing, have you upgrated to ActiveSync 4.1? If not this is a good first step. It will take you some way towards solving the problem. Next the problem might be to do with any firewall you are running. See this note from Microsoft about trouble shooting your firewall. I found that when I completely disabled my firewall AS would work. It is then a process of working out the firewall settings. In my case, I finally went for a Bluetooth connection, as it didn't seem to have the same problems. Martin.
Guest benwatt Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 The issues people are having with WM5 devices tends to be to do with firewalls blocking the connection. That's because there's been a change in how it makes the connection which although faster, it effectively makes Windows think its a network connection not just a simple USB setup. Definitely upgrade to 4.1 of ActiveSync if you haven't already, but be aware that the instructions martinr linked to at Microsoft for Zone Alarm don't work for the free version. You may not be using that particular firewall but there may be similar issues with free versions of other firewalls. As martinr says, try disabling your firewall first to make sure that's the problem before you start delving with settings!

I'm pasting below a reply in which I've shown a possible solution to your problem... I preffered to place the text directly instead of puting the link to the post... Hope it helps... see below: Hi there... I was stuck with a similar connection problem and I figured out after hours of checking, installing/uninstalling and (of course) browsing the net... The C600 and ActiveSync 4.0/4.1 use a new way of communication, that is through a "network connection". This is what you see when you connect your phone. A new device appear in the "Network Adapters" section in Device Manager sayin something like "Windows Mobile Based device...". Also a new network connection is shown up in "Network Connections" in Control Pannel. If you didn't already checked, go to that network connection, right click it and select "Properties". Then make sure that the following ARE checked (and nothing else): Client for Microsoft Networks, File & Printer Sharing for... AND TCP/IP. Without the protocol the phone IS recognized but is not communicating. TCP/IP setings should be left on "auto detect" no IP should be manually set. The problem is due to the fact that, after a reinstall of ActiveSync, the USB drivers are updated as well and those are the drivers for the simulated network card (used for communication with the PC). As you may know, if you reinstall the drivers for a network card, the device is installed but WITHOUT any protocol selected. All boxes there are un-ticked. Doesn't matter if you had 3.8 or not before.... Wanna check? At home you said it's working... OK. Reinstall ActiveSync... and it wont work. For me, Ive started with a fresh install of 4.0, it worked and after upgrading to 4.1 it didn't. Only after checking the 3 boxes in network connection properties. Hope it helps... Good Luck
Guest xuxo Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 I had the same problem and it was simply solved, turning off Zone Alarm. Anyway actyve sync 4 is very slow, but it works.
Guest stuchad Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 After 2 days of banging my head against the "Activesync 4 Sygate Personal Firewall iMate SP5" brick wall, I removed Sygate and replaced it with Kerio. Worked first time, every time, after a bit of Kerio initial 'noise' whilst it gets used to all my communications programs. Sygate is an obsolete product now anyway!
