Dropped Moby in bucket of water!

I just dropped my moby MPX220 in a bucket of water! I took the battery out and stuffed it with tissue to try to dry it - but its all blank with just the back light shinning...<sob>..

Can I do anything to save it???

I Recently fell in a lake (stupid me!) and my m500 was in my pocket and it just died. If you have warrenty its best to claim on that!!

Try taking the phone to as many bits possible without dismantling it and leaving it to dry for about 24 hours in an airing cupboard. It worked for me on one of my past phones, not perfectly but it turned on and worked, just couldnt get any signal. hope this helps, let me know how you got on

That worked for me on my 6210.

But i got the nokia from my brother in law wich fell in a pint of beer.

Tried the same, but it wouldn't go on anymore.](*,)

Thanks for help - I have him and his battery (I know its a *him* coz he just stares blankly when I talk at him!! :) sitting separately on a radiator...<sigh> I just hope he dries out OK because the insurance covers me for a replacement *phone* not specifically an MPX220...an I waited sooooo long for him....<sigh, cry and sob>..

Seen them go for as little as £75 on ebay!

The MPX220 comes apart fairly easily - you can get it apart like this with little effort. Do you have access to an ultrasonic bath - eg do you know a jeweller etc etc? They are usefull for cleaning corrosion off.

Thanks Richard....but happy to report that Moby seems to have recovered quite well, just put the battery back and he's loaded up. Even the camera is working. Only thing that seems to have suffered is active sync - PC is telling me that "a usb device attached to this computer has failed" - that'll keep me occupied (and away from buckets of water!) for a while :)

Hi Liz,

many people make that mistake - he's not ok, he needs to go to a mobile phone hospitol, there is a short somewhere on the board if you're getting a USB not recognised message. The corrosion will be minor at the moment but even when you think it's dry and the phone is working, it's still eating away at the copper tracks inside the phone. Unless you do something about it, give it a week or so and suddenly he won't switch on :-(

The corrosion that's currently giving a 'not recognised' message will spread to the other tracks around it and one day he won't wake up - the longer yopu leave it, the worse it gets.

Now's the time to take it somewhere ( local independant mobile repairer etc etc ) and pay £20 to have it stripped and cleaned. Better safe than sorry. Or take the back off yourself and have a look.

Just my opinion of course, you may find it's perfectly fine after 6 months, but if it was enough water to stop it switching on until you dried it out I think it will have done some damage.

I'm checking the insurance but its not looking good. The MPX is out of stock in the UK and the policy states "...or equivalent phone..." so only him who's b'day it is knows what they will send. I plan on putting the new phone (whatever it is) on ebay and buying a worthy replacement.....if I can do that. Humph - more paper work to look at....

If you explain water damage, and depending on your policy, they may well replace moby *and* let you bury him. Sounds like there is a short in the power circuit - possibly same short causing both issues - and it should be an easy fix. What network / insurance do you have? Can you keep him alive a bit longer 'till the Moto Q comes out?

The phones insured with Citymain via Phones2udirect where I got him from. Its on an O2 contract.

I have to send the phone to them and pay a £25.00 excess - they look at him and decide if he can be repaired - or not. If not, they send a new phone if the model is still available or the superseded model if discontinued. Which is the tricky bit because Moby is still current - just not available in UK......as far as I know.

Apart from the dodgy battery, and the none syncing, the phone works fine. I just cant do anything with it 'cep make phone calls when it's plugged in to the charger!!!

I've ordered a new battery to see if that helps...
