Configuring SD WiFi Card

Hi folks,

And a pre-emptive merry chistmas to all who read...

Just wondering if someone could shed light on how to set up my new toy. Have just received the EastGear Wifi SD Card (see gadget of the week elsewhere on the forum) for my m500 and very nice it is too.

However I'd like to be able to configure it so I can use many of the wireless networks that are about everywhere. This is not to say it isn't working - it is - as the T Mobile Hotspots came up okay at Heathrow T4 last week. What I want to do however is not have to pay - by jumping on the many other networks that are about. Bit cheapskate I know but hey!!

I know all networks are different and that some wil have encryption / protection / passwords etc so I know it can't be done all the time, but if anyone has any general tips as how to get started I'd most appreciate it.

Cheers

as long as you have the carrd in the device, it will do automatic sweeps for hotspots, both public and private, so if by change it picked a public free hotspot you should be able to log on... no other tips I am afraid ;-)

You're best bet is to get some software that shows whether the netowkr it's detected is encrypted (WEP).

It's not 100%, but often if it's not encrypted you'll be able to get on to it.

My home network isn't encrypted, but I have a set "Station List" which means only those MAC addresses can use it.

I think WiFiFoFum shows encryption status, but there are also other (free and commercial) apps that do too
