SP5: frequently saying Out of Memory...delete plse

i have a brand new SP5 and it frequently tells me that i'm low on memory and that i have to delete files. i have to go to IE, then delete three types of files...

i understand now from others that the SP5 has poor memory management and requires a significant amount of "internal ram memory" to function well without those low memory error messages.

i was also advised to remove whatever i don't need from the phone's memory and move it to my 1GB mini SD card.

for a newbie like me, while i can follow instructions, that's easier said than done.

it's a brand new phone from yesterday, so what can i possibly erase!?! most things are already in the phone's ram memory so i can't really willy nilly remove them without worrying about undesirable side effects.

i'm sure i'm not the only one who's experienced this and would appreciate your advice on what to do.

on imate's site's forum, someone posted these instructions which i don't understand:

(things i don't understand include: where do i find "imate pack cab"?? have no idea where to find them and how to "install each app one at a time to the storage card". what is a "reg editor"? what is "HKCU..."? i have no idea what this gentleman is saying/recommending. He also said change these "keys", what are they and where to we find them and change them? he mentioned that there will be plenty of remnants of the antivirus even AFTER we uninstall it. how undesirable is that? and uninstalled applications still show up in application manager?!? that sounds HIGHLY undesirable! i know that having to delete files constantly is undesirable, so is leaving all sorts of weird remnants all over the place and not knowing their side effects, right?)

here are the gentleman's instructions for "freeing up some internal ram memory":

" WARNING BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST!!!

Download the latest rom if you havn't already, otherwise do a CLEAR storage. Depending on your locale you can save space by using the NRE rom (UK english and nordic languages).

Next install the i-mate pack cab (when prompted where to put it select storage card).

Now you will have all the cab files in \Storage Card\CDL settings or something.

Install each app to the storage card.

I wouldn't bother with the antivirus.. it doesnt detect many signatures, and slows your device down - but thats just my opinion!

Next start the camera app - with the latest rom (1.0.8) it will tell you that you installed a storage card - do you want to put all pics/video there? obviously click yes!

Close the camera app.

With a reg editor browse:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

And change the following keys to as shown:

\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files

\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies

\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History

This will ensure all your IE cache goes on your storage card.

Through Activesync browse to \Windows\Profiles\guest and delete whatever you can (this is where your cache was). You won't be able to delete some of the index.dat files, but thats ok.

Now enjoy ALOT more ram :)

By the way, removing programs isn't very efficient in WM5. Even if you uninstalled the AV and re-installed it to the storage card it will leave pleanty of reminants.

Another anoyance is that uninstalled apps still remain in storage/windows/appmgr (which is device storage!!!). It should be safe to delete the ones you've uninstalled from here.
