Guest Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 I am using an i-mate SP5m and ActiveSync 4.1 without any synchronisation problems at all. However since upgrading from ActiveSync 3.x and WM2003SE, I have noticed that the partnership is now automatically assigned an unfriendly name, in my case "WM_Simon_J_Ha1" rather than a more useful "i-mate_SP5m"! If I remember rightly with ActiveSync 3.x, you could set the device name when establishing a partnership for the first time - this does not seem to be possible with ActiveSync 4.1. My SPV M2000 also works perfectly with ActiveSync 4.1, and the original partnership name "SPV_M2000" has been retained. I have also noticed that when beaming files from my M2000 to my SP5m, that the SP5m is identified by the same unfriendly name "WM_Simon_J_Ha1". Can the device name be changed? I notice that under Bluetooth settings the device is correctly identified as "i-mate SP5m" but I cannot find any other menu options for this. Not a major problem but I find it irritating. Has anyone else noticed this with their WM5 Smartphones? Or am I missing something?
Guest maniac103 Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 I think the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Ident\Name is what you are searching for :) But I don't know what ActiveSync does when changing this name...so better delete the partnership prior to changing it.

Has anyone else tried it before I mess about with my Registry?! Has anyone else noticed this with ActiveSync 4.1/WM5 or is it just me?!
