WiFi And Active sync issues

Right i have purchased an MDA vario and im very pleased so far but i have a few issues that i dont seem to be able to solve

i can access my WiFi router and browse the internet no problems, but i cant sync or view files on my computer with WiFi .

i have tried everything i know and not being to computer savvy im stumpted.

i have tried pockethosts and TBH dont have a clue how it works or what to do on my computer.

i have a Netgear wireless broadband router which is connected to the net and my laptop then acesses this and so does the phone so why can they not see each other.

i want to stream stuff too and i am gathering that once i have sorted the problem above i can then do this

Activsync does not support connecting via wifi

only IR, usb cable or bluetooth

apparently syncing via wifi was available in older versions of activesync but was removed due to security concerns.

i use resco file explorer to map network drives to my home pc and access files.
