SP5: ring tones - where best to store? mem probs

i realize that MANY things are NOT allowed to be moved from the phone's internal memory to the mini SD card!! for example, why would ring tones NOT be allowed to be saved on my mini SD??!? the only way i can see in getting around that is to save a bunch of ringtones on the mini SD, then whichever one i want to use, i have to COPY that wav file, and PASTE it at the phone's ram via File Manager. that way, we don't "waste" the phone's ram since there's only 1 ringtone taking up the phone's ram memory space. am i thinking along the right track?

I put mine in Storage Card\My Documents and it works fine.

Putting them in any sub directory past that doesnt seem to work though.

i don't understand. say you have 10 ringtones in Storage Card\My Documents, how would the phone know WHICH ONE of those are "associated" with the phone's "ringing"?

there they are, 10 ringtone wav files, if you don't tell the phone, how would it know?

in my sony ericsson, you just "associate". it was VERY simple.

Of course you associate one file to the ringtone. Start -> Settings -> Sounds ..

The thing is that the phone only finds the ringtone files if they are located in Storage Card\My Documents .. Not any subdirectory .. which is wierd .. but that's the way it is for now ..

i'll try that later today. thx !! so what you're saying is that ANY wav files stored in the Storage Card\My Documents WILL SHOW UP in that Start/Settings/Sounds horizontal scroll bar called Ringtones? so if i have 10 ringtones simply under Storage Card\My Documents (NOT any other sub directories), there will be 10 additional choices to scroll to choose from in that Ringtone horizontal scroll? how nifty. why would the phone "know" to look simply under My Documents?!? what if there are 10 other NON-wav files? so obviously, ringtones REQUIRES wav files and strictly ONLY wav files? no other types of files work?

by the way, is there any delay/slowness when the ringtone is in the Storage Card versus the phone's internal ram?

on my Sony Ericsson S700i, there's a delay using my own ringtones vs Sony Ericsson's. not too bad, but clearly there is a delay.

That's EXACTLY what he is saying, and the way MS SmartPhones have worked since the first ever one.

YOU put the files in the right place on the phone.

The phone will then let you CHOOSE which one to use when you go into > Settings > Sounds > rintone, alarm, sms sound etc.
