Guest msiler Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 (edited) I just got a 1GB MiniSD card and installed it in my SMT5600. It shows up fine and I am eager to use it. I have a few questions first: a) Do I need to do anything to the MinsSD Card before using it (like format it)? ;) I plan to load my applications like Papyrus and Smartphone Find, Smartphone Notes and Resco System toys onto the MinsSD Card. I assume they will run fine. Dod I need to change how I access them in the homescreen (shortcuts etc.) c) If i want to store a bunch of photos (50-100jpg's) can i just transfer them to the MinsSD Card or do i have to create a folder for them. Do I have to move the an existing flder to the MinsSD Card i.e my pictures or my photos. Should I move the either or both Photo Contacts or Photo Album to the MinsSD Card as well? These are the two Apps that cam on the phone... d) What about internat App's. I assume the are resource hogs (like windows desktop) and assume the MinsSD Card would be a good place to store all internet browsers, favorites etc. Again what's the best way to do this? e) How abot the "Sounds" file. I have about 5-6 pretty big ringtones (750kb-1.2mb). Can i move these to the MinSD Card and will they work fine? Thanks in advance for this great website. An excuse my noobe-ness. Dare I say I have been a Palm user for 10 years and just moved to the Smartphone platform. I like it alot so far but still have lots to learn! -Matt S- Edited December 24, 2005 by msiler
Guest kitsnz Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 Hi, can't help you too much with the miniSD stuff (use SD and different phone), but you may be interested in this.... Large ring tones can be snipped down in length and in quality, so you don't have so large files. I know it doesn't seem like much out of 1 gig, but I have 20+ tones, for different mates and the girlfriend (wish it was for many girlfriends......), so thats half a music album of space taken up, or a cool game that your missing out on. What you can do is go to download.com and get an mp3 encoder and an mp3 cutter, then cut your favorite song down to 30 seconds or so (your phone never rings longer than that before going to voicemail?) and convert the mp3 bitrate quality down a fair bit. The loud speaker on the phone doesn't need that high quality to sound pretty good, and you're saving heaps of space! Sorry no info on the other stuff, but that kind of thing is generally pretty straight forward, good luck. kitsnz
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 25, 2005 Report Posted December 25, 2005 a. The mini-SD will be formatted already so no need to do anything there. b. You will need to rewrite the shortcuts in the homescreen xml as necessary. c. You can put the photos anywhere you like but in a specific folder is tidier. The standard My Photos folder isn't necessary but since it's already there... I would leave the applications on the phone since they are part of the phone's ROM. d. As above e. Ringtones can be stored on the storage card but not message tones, IIRC. You may have to store them in the root directory itself or possibly just in My Documents. Glad you like the site. You're welcome here and there's a hell of a lot to learn ;)
