I've recently purchased the Tomtom Mobile 5 pack which includes a Tomtom GPS unit. This works very well and honestly, I'm quite impressed on Tomtom's GPS unit. I thought they were bad.

Anyhow, I also have another GPS unit for my second car (Sysonchip SmartBlue SirfStar III), but I cannot manage to bond it with Tomtom. I've tried setting the Outgoing port to 6 and also to 7 without success. Is there a trick for making this device to work?

Thanks.

Andrew

some gps units do not work with Win Mobile 2005, some manufacturers are anlbe to offer firmware upgrades (globalsat etc)

i am in a similar situation with a polstar gps unit, it is reconised, bonds, but the services can not be recognised/used

maybe there will be a fix soon?

Thanks for your reply.

It's strange though that my Syson unit works well with TT5 Navigator on my Jasjar but doesn't work with TT5 Mobile with my SP5.

The TomTom GPS unit is designed to be portable and is small enough so why not just use this in both cars?

If I have no other option, I guess I'll have to do that. The thing is that since I also have the Syson from my Jasjar, that way I would have each GPS connected to the cigarrete lighter from the back seats. That way, everytime I start the car, the GPS turns on without having to worry to recharge the battery. In other words, I have each GPS installed with velcro on the back of each car and connect to the lighter socket. Turn on the ignition, and the GPS turns on.

If I have to carry the Tomtom GPS unit everytime I switch cars, well, it is a pain in the neck to tell you the truth.

Just to share some more input: I've just downloaded Paul [MVP]'s CamerAware beta program (amazing program by way; definetely will buy it when it comes out), and it works perfectly with my Syson GPS. Assigned to COM6 and works beautifully. How come TT5 Mobile does not?

That was one of the reasons i had 2 gps units, i dont always have mine connected, but like it in the car incase io need it.

as i dont always use it i sometimes forget to swap it from one car to the next, then find myself wishing i had it

it may be something that will get fixed in a later rom update, or a update from tomtom

but as tomtom dont sell mobile without a gps unit the chances are slim!

I assume you've told tomtom that you're using an "other" GPS unit in it's settings? Dunno if that actually makes a difference or not though!

Good luck, always has been a bit of a dark art pairing it off..

Yes I Have. For the Tomtom's GPS unit I've hosen the "Tomtom" unit, and for the Syson, I've chosen "other GPS" unit. No luck at all. I've also tried selecting the "Tomtom" unit, and also no luck.

I've done some reading (most of it in this board), and there seems to be a misjudgement on who has a real TT5 Mobile software or a "copy".

I can assure you my copy is legit, and purchased last week for Christmas.

So please, if anybody knows the answer, I would be very grateful.

If not, I'll be returning the software and the GPS unit to the retail store I purchased it (I had no idea it would only work with Tomtoom GPs' units) and instead buy CoPilot 6 which seems to work with any GPS unit.

Thank you.

mine is a legit copy, and it worked perfectly well on the C500 i have, as windows as the OS on the C500 recogniesed the devices as a GPS unit, the problem is with WM5 when i pair the GPS there is still a yellow question mark by the bonded device in the bluetooth manager, i have spoken to Imate, and Microsoft and they have confirmed that not all the BT devices that worked with earlier versions will work with WM5

The reason the genuine tomtom one works is because TTM used its own bluetooth stack when used with the tomtom GPS bypassing the microsoft stack, but when using a non tomtom GPS unit the MS stack is used

AS stated above some GPS manufacturers have recognised the problem, and are able to do firmware upgrades for WM5 ie globalsat

As for you returning the package to the shop, i would be willing to bet that they will not accept it back, as you have obviouly installed the software and registered it, and it works for it intended purpose, as in it works 100% as provided, and the onus would be on you to ensure that any 3rd party hardware is comptible

as stated the problem is with WM5 not tomtom, and i too am hoping a fix will become available for!!

Damn!

Thanks again for your reply. I've should read this before purchasing it.

Oh well, I guess now I will be definitely switching the Tomtom unit back and forth. This really blows.

Thanks again for the information.

Have you managed to pair the non-tt GPS with your devide? If not try it (without TT running). When it asks for a name call it 'TomTom GPS' or 'TomTom Wireless GPS' and then try it.....

I can pair my non GPS succesfully and will work with any program except with TT5. I've even tried renaming in to "TomTom Wireless GPS" with no success, though I have´t tried with "TomTom GPS".
