Guest brykins Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 Would anyone like to shed any light on how they use their Windows Mobile device for email as I am getting fed up and disillusioned by the whole thing. I have two main domains that I use for email, and each one of those has a main user@ (although I use a lot of aliases for different mailing lists etc, but for now lets keep it simple and assume I have two email address, one for each domain) and my mail provider only provided POP3 servers (they DO actually offer IMAP but they are a mess - random folders appearing everywhere, inability to log in at random times, etc). I don't use Outlook for email (for many reasons) however would consider it if I had to. Now - I don't use the email sync via Activesync for the simple reason that I might be away from the desk all day - I need to be able to receive email without having to sync and also to write and send email there and then, not leave it in the outbox until I am next to the desktop. So - it's POP3 accounts. Great - I can use Messaging to pick up my email wherever I am and as long as I don't delete it within Messaging then it's downloaded to my desktop when I get home. That bit works well. I can read email and also reply to it via smtp from the handheld. Problem....I then get no copy of the sent item on my desktop..... I have a workaround for that though - I have a free email account and I can BCC email that I send from the handheld to this account - this is then checked only on the desktop and filters move it to the right folder so it *appears* to be a sent item. It works but I have to manually put in the BCC each time. So - any third party email clients that have an automatic BCC on all outgoing email? Any free IMAP providers that actually work well with Windows Mobile (and any recommended desktop applications?) so I can simply forward all my email to this and use it? How do you keep email sync'd between your desktop and mobile device?
Guest Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 After trying many options, yours is the very problem I had, and I found Gmail was the answer. What I do is to have anything sent to my domain sent to my Gmail account. Then I have my Gmail account set with a reply-to address of my domain email address. I then access the Gmail account via Pocket IE, rather than POP3, and send and receive via the Pocket IE web interface, which means all is in sync, however I access the account. Hope this helps some! Pete.
