syncing contacts with active sync to pc

I'm having trouble syncing my contacts from my wizard to my PC. Connected over USB and everything else works, but it wont let me sync contacts. I've even tried deleting partnerships on both the wizard and the pc but same result. I've tried a new partnership with only contacts to be sync'd but it just continually says 'connecting'. I've left it for over 1/2 hour but still just 'connecting'.

I've upgraded to Active Sync 4.1 for my laptop from the MS site and my Wizard is running WM5, with the original T-Mobile ROM.

Any ideas?

How many contacts are you trying to synchronise??

The first time you sync it can take absolutely ages for some reason. It might be worth leaving it for more than 30 mins and see if it completes.

Just deleted and created a new partnership again. I selected only contacts to be sync'd, it 'syncs' immediatly showing it as being successful. This takes a only a couple of seconds. There are no contacts in outlook whatsoever though. The laptop is new and has never sync'd before. I loaded AS 4 from the CD with the vario and updated it to 4.1 from the MS site. I've not got a mega amount of contacts, only about 130, most only have just names and numbers.

When I look at the AS options within the device, the contacts option appears greyed out with no option to select this. Only calender, email and tasks are available for syncing.

Please help, I'll be knackered if I lose my phone - all my contacts are on it!!
