I've had an SPV M2000 all year which, despite well documented bugs, has proved much fun and relatively robust (the speaker has just started to distort).

Before that I had SPVs E100 and E200 but I far prefer the PPC format

I am wondering what I should aim for on my next upgrade. SPV M5000? I would benefit greatly from the better camera resolution!

I have managed to get these last three phones free of charge from Orange by pointing out that if I cancel my contract then open a new one I get the phone I want at the cost of having a new number, whilst they get a lot of paperwork to do!

In the light of Orange's new "look after existing customers" policy this may cease to work however

I am wondering what you would suggest as an upgrade?

cheers

By all means the M5000 is a great phone as long as you can put up with its size.

M500's are also nice and small however no WiFi.

Just check out some devices in your local Orange shop, have a fiddle and hopefully that should help you make your decision.

I suppose the advantage of that is that you are supposed to be able to turn off the homescreen onit, unlike on other devices...

I suppose the only thing I would like over and above the 2000 would be a better resolution camera

If you can live without the hardware keyboard and don't mind the size (which given you're happy with the M2000 you definately won't) then why not go for the SPV M1500 (HTC Alpine)? As fast a processor as you can get in a Pocket PC Phone (520MHz), better camera (1.3mega pixel) and slightly more memory (128meg RAM & 128meg ROM. It's not the perfect device lacking a VGA screen and WM5 (although the merits of that could be argued against :D ) but it's a step up from the Blue Angel.

I'd like to recommend one of the new generation devices but the shrunken screens on the Vario and Compact II along with their more restrained (cough cough!) processors put me off, as does the larger (mini laptop) form factor of the different HTC Universals.

But then, it doesn't seem to upset anyone else so I guess I'm in a minority! ;)

It depends what you want. I love the Universal 3G makes internet access useable as does WiFi, for me it's the ideal machineIf you want a smaller form factor the M500 is very small tyhe M3000 (Wizard) is the same but with a keyboard but for some reason not available in the UK or a bigger format, like Pondrew says, is the M1500.

If you don't mind the size the Universal has everything but the choice is yours.

Is the M1500 that much of a jump up from the M2000?

well - I plumped for the M5000 seeing as

orange retentions only wanted £14.99 for it!

still ironing out some problems (wifi, smart dialling)

but so far I love it - especially the build quality!

I don't mind the size or weight because it feels

so well made! puts the M2000 to shame

keyboard is so ergonomic

camera is superb

voice command over bluetooth rocks!

overall v. happy

tho I wish I could sort these few probs out

cheers all
