Guest Jefferychang Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Thanks for help me out!! I am doing my research on convergent device. The result will be very important for development of future smartphone. ;)
Guest w411y Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 (edited) Why ask whats most important? In my eyes all those are included and all important in their own ways to different people and should be kept included but improved. In the future of smartphones Id like to see improvement in bluetooth, a better camera (even if still 1.3mp), faster, quicker start-ups and Orange offering WiFi smartphones  So who exactly are you/ who do you work for? Anywho, welcome to the forum ;) Edited December 28, 2005 by w411y
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 One thing most companies miss is the ability to play games. While they want to make calls etc the gaming market has huge potential and is a missed opertunity especially by Orange. A decent 8-way controller and no multipress issues would mean a device top on my list ;)
Guest max1956bikes Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 Thanks for help me out!! I am doing my research on convergent device. Guest Alex_le_brit Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Out of those choices I put voice conversations, because I guess that's still what it gets used for most. However if I could say the thing it really gets used for most then that would be playing MP3s. If you're talking true convergency I'd like to see wifi and also is it DECT? The digital standard for in-home cordless phones? Having something which switched across automatically upon coming home would be excellent. Mind you I guess with VOiP and wifi that and standard fixed phone might become redundant.
Guest Jefferychang Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Thanks, guys. I don't expect I will have so many replies. I think more discussions can make me generate more creative idea and profound thinking about how consumer feel of their device, no matter it's smartphone, Pocket PC, 3G phone, handheld PC. Whether these various devices will be converged or still developed as they are is still a mystery. That's why I am so passion to find the true value of the development. As the matter of fact, I don't see many people using these kinds of devices on conversation. One of my friend's company manufactures this kind of converged device for big names, and he thinks this device is targeted on business user right now because it's too expensive. But in my opinion, it's the different feeling of changing your lifestyle. I just wonder once you consider to adopt this kind of device or have been used for a while, will you have the intention to use the device to adapt to your lifestyle?? I hope everyone can share your opinion about this. Happy New Year!! ;)
Guest Alex_le_brit Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Happy new year to you too. If I had to say what the perfect Smartphone would be for me then it would be one with the power of a reasonable PC - one capable of surfing, and handling mid-range wordprocessing and graphics design anyway, with a built in infra-red projecting keyboard à la Siemens SX-1 (I think) Which was capable of acting as the CPU of my computer system and which would also link to a full sized keyboard, monitor, printer, scanner, speakers etc and had upgradable software including the OS. Basically replacing the large grey box that sits on my office floor with loads of wires coming. When I got to my desk I could just drop the thing in a charging cradle, which could have something like a DVD burner in it and charger and use it like a home PC. Then when I've finished working I save onto its built in hard disk and use it as a phone because it's got DECT built in or VOiP capabilities. Later it automatically records the TV I want using it's PVR software whilst checking for any podcasts and RSS feeds. Then I got to bed and it wakes me up in the morning. I use it as a remote control to switch on my lights and open my curtains and get the coffee going, whilst it downloads the morning's headlines for me. Then as I leave the house it automatically locks the door behind me before unlocking my car door and communicating with the cars inbuilt software to give me satellite navigation to my destination, and playing my favourite MP3's through the car's built in Dolby 5.1 sounds system. When I get to the train station it automatically bills me for my ticket and as I board the train it logs onto the free wifi onboard. I can sit and do some calendar planning, or catch up on the TV I recorded last night. I get off the train walk into my office drop the phone on the cradle and I can start work. I think that'll be a good few years off though, if it ever happens at all. But for me that would be true convergency.
Guest Jefferychang Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 yes, that device is absolutely cool and stunny and so is your story. I am just wondering two things and maybe someone can answer for me. 1. Frankly speaking, will you change your life in order to adapt to the device or your device change your lifestyle? some people believe it's people who choose the device, but what device can do is limited and how people can flexible manage their life by a limited device? That's what I want to figure out. 2. Another one I want to know about is can anyone tell me what value do you think your device can give you? Value is a combination of everything that a user perceive. So my question should be "what is the most valuable benefit that you think your device give to you?" Your answer will give me a good advice on my research. Thanks. Cheers, ;)
Guest Alex_le_brit Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Jeffery, yes it was just a story, and an idealised one, and one which might nto suit everyone. WOuld I change my life to suit a device? No but I might find my life changed as a result of some of the additional features available to me. To give an example: In the past if I wanted to do simple word processing I would have to take the material to the computer and type, now because I've got a Smartphone and a keyboard I can take the device to the material. In the past when I wanted to use MSN Messenger I would have to sit at my PC, and see who came online, now thanks to bluetooth I can sit anywhere in my house and just use my passthru connection in effect I can have MSN on 24/7 where I want it. If I had to say what was the most valued feature then it would be the mobility, the fact that many of the features that were tied to a large PC or a slightly smaller laptop can now be carried in my pocket. So whilst building new and original features into a phone is a good idea for me personally the ultimate will be building in free connectivity, part of which will come through the incorporation of wifi but this will only really be effective if sufficient coverage is available at a low enoough cost.
Guest Jefferychang Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Thanks for your opinions. As a matter of fact, I believe the multifuctional mobile device is designed and targeted to business users or tech fans first. Also I believe many people here are belonged to this group and are attributed to early adopter at this moment. However, the environment is changing and more information are going online, people will become more pressure if not adopt it. Take mobile phone for example, calls from mobile are over the volume of home phone. But we cannot predict the same pattern on the future of smartphone or pocket-pc based on this logic. Here comes my question: Do you feel any different in your life after you bought the device except for technology use like browse the Internet or listen to mp3? Will you feel more obligated or anxious of being invaded as a result of more reach on owning this device? Please advise me how you feel. Thanks a lot!! ;)
