SPV C500 Canary screen - HELP (newbie)

Hi,

I'm really sorry to bother you all, but I think I've just fried my SPVc500.

I downloaded the new ROM update from Orange 4.1.1.4 connected wverything up followed the oinstructions and then broke my phone. Things to note are:

I had the phone connected by a usb hub - this caused the Rom update package to report that I needed to disconnect from hub (not enough power to support update) and then reconnect ot main usb; which I did. The progress bars on the USB and phone at the time where showing 2%.

I reconnected my phone and tried to resume, but the activesync didn't recognise my phone had been plugged in etc. So I switched off the phone (by taking out the battery) and reset the PC, tried again but the phone would only boot up to the canary screen (it shows RUU in top right hand corner and USB in bottom left when I plug in USB cable to phone - otherwise ther is a white band at bottom of phone screen). Upgraded activesync to 3.8 and no difference - researched forums and net and can find no help. Have tried the 2 soft power keys reset about 15 times and can't get the phone to reset. Is there any other way of getting the phone to reset? Or any solution to my problem?

I am running windows 98 SE. I don't mind losing data on phone, I just want my c500 back.

Sorry to be a pain.

Kind regards and seasons wishes!

Ejaz.

Hello,

find someone with XP or 2000 on their computer and try to re-run the update.

I've got my work pc here, that's got XP on it, I'll try that, do I need to upgrade activesync to 4.1 for the XP machine? I think it's still running the 3.7 I installed on it ages ago.

Thanks for your advice!!!

No, 3.7 runs fine on xp. Make sure the USB ports are enable in the bios - some workplaces disable them to stop use of USB flash drives etc. As you can't sync your phone anyway you wouldn't be able to tell :-(

Hi guys thanks for the info, tried synch-ing to XP but no joy.

The phone still stays on that canary screen (red/green/blue). When I plug in the cable to the phone, if the phone is off, it switches on the the canary screen. Activesynch still does not recognise the phone as being connected - I assume because the phone hasn't loaded the operating system and therefore cannot signal it's presence? I still cannot get the phone to reset either. Rang Orange and they told me to get in touch with the "SPV people" and to get the rom flashed. I doubt this will happen because the last time I rang them, they were very unhelpful due to the phone being out of manufacturers warranty. If there's another way to reset the phone I would be truly grateful. Has anybody else been able to get activesynch to recognise the phone when it's in cancary mode? And how?

Appreciations.

Hello,

I had this ages ago for a phone that was in warranty - there are 2 options.

Use www.imei-check.co.uk to unlock the phone using their app, then you can emergency flash an entire image opposed to just running an update - never tried this so can't answer any questions but google is a wonderful thing ;-)

or there is an option at www.htceurope.com for an out of warranty repair for a bad flash. As mine was in warranty, I sent it back for a keyboard fault and didn't mention the flash...

Thanks for this info, it looks like it's the right sort of stuff I'm after. I'm going to keep trying the "SPV people" haven't got hold of them yet, just to see what they say, but I think that HTC europe site looks like "the one".

Thanks to all for your input, and any more would appreciated!

Ta!

Jaz.
