Guest zetron Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 (edited) I'm new here & new to the smartphone technology. So not sure if this information is already common knowledge or not, with reference to the Imate SP5m. I just bought the phone a few days back. And in my search on trying to find out a way to use mp3 ringtones instead of those low quality WAV files stumbled onto this forum. The procedure I have used to get mp3 files to work as ringtones. 1. Copy the mp3 files onto your phone in the My Documents folder (haven't tried with SD card, because I don't have it, yet) 2. Rename them to .wav files 3. Goto Settings - Sounds 4. Select the mp3 file which has been renamed with the .wav extension 5. Warning is displayed, "unknown/unrecognized file format, cannot use this file" 6. Go back to File Manager, rename files to .mp3 7. Goto Settings - Sounds 8. The .mp3 files are still available for selection as ringtones 9. Select the mp3 file as ringtone Edited December 30, 2005 by zetron
Guest shadamehr Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 Erm, I have to be the one to ask, but ... Why all the rigmarole at all??? The SP5 / SP5m can ALREADY happily handle mp3 files as ringtones (as long as they are not very high bitrate/vbr IIRC). So just drop the mp3 file itself in the My Documents Flder, and leave it at that - no more work, fiddling, trickery, or renaming needed. For using the mini-SD card, just create a My Documents folder on the card, and drop them there, and that works fine. I currently have Elvis singing Silver Bells as an mp3 on my mini-sd card, and it works fine mate. I thought all phones since the C500 ROM update supported mp3 ringtones...
Guest zetron Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Aah, I guess the high-bitrate could have been the problem. Or maybe I was just doing something wrong. Anyway, thanks for clearing it up.
Guest shadamehr Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 No problem mate - have a good New Year
