Guest emyllis Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 Just updated to the new ROM 4.21.1088 I think... I have noticed that the volume adjust settings on the left hand side doesn't work - turning the volume up or down, but if I hold the button down i can do the voice options. Any idea on how to rectify this problem? Thanks
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Hi there! Don't know if this will help you solve the volume problem. I hope it will... else, that calls for a hard reset. VolumeRestore.cab
Guest emyllis Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Excellent! That's done the job... where did you get the cab file from in the first instance? No hard reset needed now. Thanks v. much, you're a gent.

Thanks v. much, you're a gent. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are most welcome. Just a stroke of luck I guess. ;) It was not the ROM upgrade that caused the volume problem but a homescreen. You have probably installed a theme which includes a volume dialog replacement. Happy new year!
Guest emyllis Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 you're right now I think of it! I installed a "theme changer" program, which when prompted said it would change all standard sound settings. I assume that when I uninstalled it, it still kept those settings/a bit of the program cancelled the volume up and down settings? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? And happy new year to you too!
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 1 thing I am certain about the culprit: it made changes to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:VolDlg Could be that it (the homescreen / program) changed BKBitmapFile and used another GIF file. I'm glad everything's sorted now ;)
Guest emyllis Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 One last thing please: I've noticed that my top volume is now substantially quieter than it was before, e..g. I can barely hear my songs playing (although the up and down volume now works). I've ensure the volume on the left hand side of the c500 is top, that WMP10 is set to 100% volume and that in my profile, everything is on "loud" but still, i can barely hear the alarm when i'm only a few metres away - it's not going to awake me from the land of nod in it's current state! Any other suggestions please? Cheers
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 Have you tried other media like AVI files say on TCPMP ? I guess it would be easy to isolate if the problem stems on the hardware part, messed up registry or problem with the audio files you played (encoding problem). I suggest you restart your phone first after installing the CAB I attached then try different files using different players. If the same problem occurs, isolate further, try a hard reset or even a ROM re-flash. Those two will restore factory settings. If still with the stubborn problem then you are off to one reason; hardware. Could be that something's wrong with your phone speaker.
Guest emyllis Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 will try it out and report back - if no report back, I suggest that you assume it's been resolved. Thanks
