Guest Nase007 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Hello Can someone please tell me how to get a I-Mate ROM on my Orange C500? Thanks Nase
Guest Tech Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 why would you want to do such a thing? it really is not possible. Not only will it be pointless but you have a chance of ruining the device. Not really worth it. stick to the original ROM's designed for the phone device ;)
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 why would you want to do such a thing? it really is not possible. Have you tried? Actually it is. There is more info on other websites that can be found using google. Please don't state things are 'really not possible' when what you really mean is 'I don't know'. You are stating your own views as fact when they are not. Not only will it be pointless but you have a chance of ruining the device. Not really worth it. No, it isn't pointless. It will remove the orange branding at the very least. For a while, the only way to get wmp10 on a c500 was to use another rom. Less important now, but a valid reason back then to try hacking other roms onto your phone. There may be other reasons I don't know of or can't think of. Surely if someone has asked they must have a reason? So why not help them?.... stick to the original ROM's designed for the phone device ;) If you still have a warranty and it's your only phone that you can't risk damaging then yes, don't risk it. If however you have an old one lying about then try a google search for instructions on how to do this. Richard
Guest mcwarre Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 So why not help them?.... Richard, As you well know installation of these ROMS on another device is illegal and therefore the OP should not be helped. ;)
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 (edited) Richard, As you well know installation of these ROMS on another device is illegal and therefore the OP should not be helped. ;) So by that idea, would putting a foreign country but same operator rom, or the WWE rom rather than country specific rom by forced installation / hacking not also be illegal?...or even the copyrighted orange plugin onto a non-orange device? Or how about the imate sp5 rom onto a Qtek 8300? Yet these get discussed quite openly - and some people even link *directly* to imate's FTP to enable downloads bypassing their login process - yet in the same thread, a poster asking how to obtain the rom gets his post moderated  Richard Edited January 2, 2006 by fluffcat1
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 Hello Can someone please tell me how to get a I-Mate ROM on my Orange C500? Thanks Nase Why, look! It's a nine page thread on modaco about hacking an Qtek rom onto a C500.... http://www.modaco.com/Install_newest_QTek_...00-t207547.html The method should be the same for the imate rom. Where you get the rom is upto you, but if you do a bit more looking (even around this site) you may find some help towards it without having to ask too many more questions ;) Richard

I already found the download link to the I-Mate ROMs in another forum so i will have a look at the link and see how far i can get :D Cheers Nase
Guest Disco Stu Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 McWarre is right but we Mods are not infallible. We're also not Nazis, nor do we have eyes on all threads all the time. The situation is confused by iMate & Qtek's subsequent withdrawal of their ROMs from public access and the former's ftp site being open-to-all. We have to make decisions interpreting forum rules as the situation dictates. We may not always be consistent but our hearts are in the right place.. ;)
Guest NoNafs Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 Thanks for the hint. Just make sure the phone is unlocked and you reset the CID, and you should be good to go.
Guest Tech Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 fair enough - i see that any users who have a view are not welcome. your loss - im just trying to be realistic and help. no more.
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 McWarre is right but we Mods are not infallible. We're also not Nazis, nor do we have eyes on all threads all the time. But when it's the mods who are doing it it gets a bit hypocritical. 'Do as I say not do as I do' style... And don't ask me who etc, I don't want to get into a flame war, just do a search on the topics I listed above. The situation is confused by iMate & Qtek's subsequent withdrawal of their ROMs from public access and the former's ftp site being open-to-all. No it isn't confused (by this) IMO. Making software public access to download / not public access to download doesn't circumvent the EULA. Anyone can go to orange's site and get the c500 rom. Does this mean they can put it on their imate because it's still 'public access'? And beceause you can circumvent imate's download login, and you can get the rom, then they must want you to use it on any device? I think not. We have to make decisions interpreting forum rules as the situation dictates. We may not always be consistent but our hearts are in the right place.. ;) Fairy snuff, and completley understandable, but my main issue is non-moderators telling people what is and isn't allowed / possible, yet moderators themselves doing / discussing the very same procedures. Perhaps this could be clarified in the forum rules? "Posts asking for help with illegal software will be removed. " I would interpret this as meaning help with ripped-off copies of TomTom from ebay etc. "MoDaCo runs a zero tolerance policy on illegal software and ROMs. " I would also interpret this ( based on previous comments upon the subject by moderators themselves) as not providing links to download blatently illegal roms eg wm2005 for typhoon, wm2003 for mpx200 etc etc. But then, it's not my site, it's not upto me. If Paul can make a definitive ruling and ensure the mods also stick to it, it would make life a lot easier. A lot of the time the newbie / OP of a topic doesn't even realise this is considered a 'grey' area, and they get shot down with cries of 'illegal' - 'impossible' - 'impractical' with no explanation as to how/why.... fair enough - i see that any users who have a view are not welcome. your loss - im just trying to be realistic and help. no more. Telling somebody something that is incorrect isn't helpful!!!!!!!! See below, as covered previously above. why would you want to do such a thing? it really is not possible. False. Not only will it be pointless False. but you have a chance of ruining the device. True! Not really worth it. False. I wouldn't have responded to the OP but there is so much dis-information flying around. If you don't know something yourself for definite, or you can't at least link to or quote somewhere for it, don't say it! Otherwise all you're doing is bumping your post count.... :D fair enough - i see that any users who have a view are not welcome. but you're not stating that it's your view! You're stating it as fact! You are welcome to your view, and with the latest updates to give the c500 rom wmp10 I can see no personal reason why I would want to put the imate rom on a c500, but that's my *view* - the *fact* is that it *is* possible, which is what my first post in this thread was about  Richard
