Guest leyth Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Hi Guys, I have a quick question. Can I charge my SP5 with any USB cable that carries Power or do I have to use one specifically designed for imate/HTC? Is the power emitted by the USB standard? Thank you for your help, Leyth
Guest looeee Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Any standard USB2.0 cable will work looeee
Guest Amun.hidden1 Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 does anyone know of a way to disable battery charging while connected to PC USB cable ;) i just want to synch damn it, not fuel the battery !! do not think this can be done.....but here's a challenge for the willing :D
Guest MitchellO Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 It should be possible to mod a cable to disconnect the power wires, and make a sync-only cable, but why would you want to?
Guest pambis Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 u can send/receive/sync with your computer by bluetooth so you dont have to use the usb. this way your phonr wont get charged

My battery will eventual die of so many rechargings for short period of time. Isnt there a more software aproach?
Guest thenext1 Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 @MitchellO: usb cables are composed of 4 pins, 2 related to power and 2 related to data... I think the power lines are involved too in the device detection, so you can't make a modified cable that doesn't include the power. It's not like a serial cable. I think the "decision" has to be made from the phone, to not charge the battery.
Guest amnesia Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 You can also use a Motorola V3 charger ;)

For 'dumb' charging (i.e not from a computer - using a wall charger / car charger etc) pins four and five need to be shorted together. Richard
