Guest SSR Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Hi folks, As mentioned in my other post (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=ST&f=16&t=234239&st=0) I've been having problems with applications locking up using a Kingston 1Gb miniSD card. Are the SPV's OK with 1Gb cards? Perhaps there's a limit to the amount of memory it can address properly. I've noticed that when I copy data using USB to the phone directly it will lock up similarly after copying for about 5 minutes. If I use the card with a card reader I have no problems at all. I've contacted Kingston and they've suggested reformatting the card, so I've done that as FAT32. I'm not sure what's best for the SPV, or whether this will cure the problems. I'll try testing the newly formatted card in the phone...
Guest martin Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 What's your phone memory status ? Lockups are often cause by having low (internal) flash memory.
Guest SSR Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 (edited) Thanks for the reply. With just Resco System Toys (to check the memory) I have the following stats. With the 512Mb card: Main Memory = 12.10/21.6Mb (56% used) Storage Memory = 0.54/1.5Mb (37% used) Storage card = 115.39/489.3 (24% used) Storage = 3.54/28.0Mb (13% used) With the 1Gb card: Main Memory = 13.02/21.6Mb (56% used) Storage Memory = 0.55/1.5Mb (37% used) Storage card = 667.86/952.1Mb (24% used) Storage = 3.55/28.0Mb (13% used) With TomTom Mobile loaded, using the 1Gb card: Main Memory = 16.80/21.6Mb (56% used) Storage Memory = 0.55/1.5Mb (37% used) I haven't tried with Destinator SP as since upgrading my firmware to the latest version the device ID changed so I'm waiting for a reply from Destinator support on what to do in terms of licensing it. TomTom and Destinator only seemed to crash when in use, and I actually have to be driving. As if it happens when accessing the card. Another time the phone crashes though is when copying data to it, when using the phone itself. When I use a card reader everything is fine. Do you think main memory would be an issue at this time also? Also, is there any way to free main memory? Edited January 4, 2006 by SSR
Guest SSR Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 (edited) I tried a test copying data again, monitoring the main memory, but noticed very little change from the normal state. So there seemed to be plenty of main memory free with copying data. I've spoken to Kingston's Tech Support, and they've suggested updating the firmware (already done) and using a card reader (which seems to work OK). ... In fact I've just done a search and spotted that apparently Kingston's memory uses MLC style construction which is incompatible with the SPV C500. It needs to be SLC construction, which MobyMemory.com uses. Edit: I've gone and bought a 2Gb card from MobyMemory, which says it uses SLC. Let's hope this one works!... Edited January 4, 2006 by SSR
Guest pndragon Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I'm using a Audiovox SMT 5600 with 1Gb miniSD card and I get the same problems. It only locks up after a large transfer happens. Like after a few minutes of transfering over either a very large file or lots of smaller files that just take up a long time. The miniSD is made by SanDisk and I am too much of a noob to really know the difference between MLC and SLC construction styles so I can't help there. Just thought I'd add to this post.
