Guest Mrpatch Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 I have dropped my SDA and the backlight no longer works, the screen is working Ok but he backilght is not. After it was dropped one side topped working and then shortly after the other side failed. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to get this repaired.
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 Easy way? Doubt it. How old is the device? You could try a warranty claim and not mention dropping it...... If the LCD is still intact, there could be one of three things that is causing the problem.. The ribbon is no longer seated properly in the board connector - the LED lines are on the outside edge of the ribbon. Try opening the phone, removeing and re-seating the ribbon. Next, the LED's are connected by a seperated ribbon that is solder onto the main LCD ribbon. This joint may have fractured. Gently re-heat with a soldering iron. Related to this, the LED ribbon itself may have ripped, or the LED tracks in the main LCD ribbon may have ripped. If you can see these rips / cracks, you can repair with silver conductive paint. Finally, the LED's themselves may have been damaged. Buy a broken LCD assembly off someone who has replaced it in their phone, strip the LED conductor opaque plastic out, re-assemble inside your LCD assembly, connect the LED ribbon to the LCD ribbon and try it out. Or you could just get a complete new LCD. Depending on part number they go on ebay for about £40. Richard
