Guest Tech Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 (edited) Hey folks! Well, I know this is a mobile forum but I have put this topic in the OT since its not part of the mobile stuff - but a PC application I have made. I am sure most of you know about my work - WMP Remote. If not, check it out :D I have made an application called "DAR-ling" (thanks to my colleague for the name!) and this application is a Digital Audio Recorder. The purpose is simple, to record audio from either a streaming URL or just sound playing through the soundcard (for example, if you wish to record a live mix or whatever) from a set date and time to a set end date and time. It is pretty much a personal audio recorder - Ever wanted to record some audio without having to be at your PC? Are you out when you have a radio show coming online soon? Are you wanting to record some audio to listen to later? That is what this application does, it records audio to your local disk! There maybe some applications out there which may do this, however they are usually limited in what they can do or the running time of the application - this is totally free and the full thing! Please, check it out if you like - would appreciate any feedback and comments - and suggestions! http://www.spapps.co.uk/apps/spar The current version is Beta 0.3 therefore expect some bugs/problems. please - let me know what you think ;) Thanks! :D Edited January 4, 2006 by Tech
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 Does it stay purely digital if you use a digital input, or does it convert on the fly and back? I currently use 'Total recorder' to record from my Hi-MD device over USB to avoid Sony's damn silly DRM in sonicstage that *deletes* the original source on your MD media after ****1**** digital upload from a live / analogue recording! ( and if it crashes during uploading, which it will if you edit on the MD first, you are out of luck ) But total recorder put's a pop at the beginning of each track so I still need to edit afterwards...so anything new is worth a look :-) Richard
Guest Tech Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 (edited) hi Richard, thanks for that ;) Well, it only records to Wave at this time. What I meant by "Digital Audio Recorder" was simply a personal audio recorder application for the PC :D PC's are digital devices - Digital Audio Recorder :D stop making it confusing! :D just kidding :D It simply records sound from the soundcard, whatever sound that maybe (mp3 playing, an audio stream, a video playing... whatever) to WAVE. I may implement it so that it converts the recorded file to MP3 - the reason Im doing it in wave is simple: to obtain the best possible quality - if you record to a compression format (MP3) then you lose quality straight away as its gotta record and compress at the same time - doing it in wave is RAW therefore records everything as is and directly to HDD instead of using the CPU alot... this one does not put a "pop" at the beginning or end - unless you want me to? :D I'm sure you are aware of this - hope it helps! :D Edited January 5, 2006 by Tech
