OK!

My SPV is only a few months old.

Made the mistake of letting it go FLAT while on holiday.

Now it wont charge...

It does one of of the following:

- LED wont light off the USB sync at all

- LED lights red and phone doesnt charge

- LED lights orange for about 4 seconds, then goes green. phone doesnt charge

The battery was fine until I let it run down, and now I'm stuck.

I should have known, as I have a friend (who recommended the SPV) and the exact same thing happened to him!

Is there anyway of charging the battery OUT of the phone?

I miss my SPV!

thx in advance

Have you left it plugged into the wall charger for an hour or so, unplugged, and re-plugged? If not, try that. Usually works for me :-)

Replacement batteries are cheap and plentiful on ebay.

Ive had this a few times...

Just plug it into the charger so the LED lights up red.

Leave it for a while and disconnect/reconnect every now and again and eventually it will charge.

I find that I have to use the wall charger if its really flat, the USB doesn't seem to want to charge it.

I managed to charge the battery with a power supply and the phone is working however i think the problem that caused the battery to go flat is this...

I tried to aplication unlock my phone from the orange dev site and it is making my GPRS connection stay on all the time with out downloading anything (or completing the download?) anyone know how i cancel this download?

I had problems with this also. Basically if the SPV C500 goes COMPLETELY flat then it's almost game over ;o)

What I did to fix the problem was to buy a mains charger for £5 or so, cut the mini-USB plug off. This reveals two wires, a red (positive power) and black (negative power / ground).

Remove your battery from the phone (cell in US ;o)) and place the red wire onto the + terminal and the black wire onto the - terminal for 30-60 seconds. Now charge as normal.

Note that to get a better connection with the battery terminals it is easiest to strip the two wires about 2 inches or so and wrap them each round two mini screwdrivers (i.e. like oscilloscope leads) and use the ends of the screwdrivers to press onto the battery terminals.

The rumour for the reason for the problem, is that there's an internal controller / regulator inside the batteries to control overcharging or to stop someone charging a dud battery. If the batteries become completely flat then sometimes the controller malfunctions. However performing the set of steps above seemed to fix the issue for me.

Hope you have good luck. Talk about a useless design though... sometimes technology seems to go backwards, but I understand if it's for safety reasons, i.e. lithium batteries are said to be volatile if overcharged etc. Although over safety on the manufacturers part means more money! i.e. let's all buy new batteries

Anyway hope it helps :)

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks for that!

My solution was to buy a replacement battery from eBay for a fiver!

The one thing I did try was to find another suitable charger - in this case the charger from a Packard Bell PDA I had lying around. The batteries are of a similar capacity, charge and so on, so I dismantled the charger and lined up the terminals. Sadly it still wouldnt charge - probably due to the LiIon protection circuit! Will make sure that when the phone turns itself off now, I wont turn it back on until I have charged it!

Thanks for your help

Barry
