I want to sync a C500 and a C600 to my PC

Currently, I have a C500 and am due for an upgrade. I will get a C600, but want to keep my C500 as a spare and keep it in sync with my PC.

I am running Active Sync 3.8.0 build 5004 quite happily with my C500.

However, looking at the threads and problems others have had when upgrading and installing later versions of Active Sync with their C600, I have a couple of questions

(1) Can I stick with v3.8 to sync a C600 with my PC? If so, what is the downside?

(2) If I use v4.x will my C500 work with that?

(3) Is there a definitive set of "must do" instructions to get a PC that has had v3.8 installed completely clean and working with v4.x? (I know that there are threads that give various advice, but they didn't seem to work for everybody). If there is, can I ask that it should be pinned as it will affect many Forum users.

(4) Lastly, unlocking a C600 - will the instructions to unlock a C500 both for Apps and from Orange - work on the C600 as well. If not, again a pinned set of instructions in the right section would be appreciated.

C600 is a must to upgrade to 4.0 of activesync

C500 works fine with v4.0 or greater

there is no "must do" steps to remove 3.8 apart from removing it from the control panel

you can still application unlock it through the orange developer website, or use the unlocking instructions given on this site or using my site (http://www.spapps.co.uk/Info/MobileDevices/Typhoon.aspx)

Thanks for this, but I have to say that other threads disagree with you on the 3.8 removal being as simple as you suggest. Check, if you like.

Regardless of the above, when you upgrade to AS 4.1 (as it is up to officially now), this has a much reduced feature set compared to its predescessor

No more filtering by Category of contacts etc, is just one such example.

So be aware, that if you use anything other then just the plain features of AS on your C500, you will likely not be able to do any fancy stuff using AS4.1 on the C500.
