does anyone know of an app where i can type in notes like in outlook?

There are a few note applications about, one that has been around for a while is Orneta Notepad which can be found here.

Thanks for that, but do you know of any that sync with Outlook notes and that are free

No free option. There is SmartphoneNotes and PhatNotes. I never got PhatNotes to sync with my phone, so I ended up with SmartphoneNotes and have been very satisfied. I would recomend trying both trials and evaluate for your self.

One way would be to create a new email message and then save it as a draft. However, I can't get this to synch with my Exchange server ... perhaps an ActiveSync setting somewhere.

...I just stick everything in Tasks now as none of the notes programs sync to the Exchange server - just to the local PC...now I can sync everything over the air...
