Guest newtonmj Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 (edited) Hi everyone, Having just upgraded from a C500 to a C600 I'm now in the position of wanting to transfer all my contacts (stored in the phone, not the SIM) over. User files have been no problem using the Explore function of ActiveSync (most were on the mini-SD card anyway which I swapped over). However, having been bitten several times in the past my high-level synchronisation software (Nokia DateShite anyone?) I'm not entirely confident of doing this safely with ActiveSync, indeed if this is possible at all. Incindentally, I don't have Outlook installed hence when I sync my contacts to the PC they don't appear to go anywhere - I'm sure they're somewhere but I can't see 'em (happy to receive further pointers on this). So, my question is this - what's the best way to do it? I don't want to transfer them all to the SIM, swap the SIM over and transfer them to the new phone, as I don't want to lose all the additional info (and lengthy strings) that I've stored. Just to clarify - given my concerns above I haven't actually tried syncing my old phone to the PC via ActiveSync, and then syncing my new phone the same way... Somehow I don't expect it to be that simple... Mathew P.S. SpriteBackup seems like a perfect app for this, however it doesn't yet support WM2005. Edited January 6, 2006 by newtonmj
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 The best thing to do is install Outlook, it makes life far easier and can be set to automatically backup your contacts on the pc. This is definately worth doing in case you ever needed to do a hard reset for any reason.
Guest Ben Horley Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 I agree with the above poster. All you need to do is install Outlook then run it to let it configure itself. Then connect your C500 and let it sync contacts. Then plug in your C600 and the contacts should move over onto your C600. You may have to upgrade Activesync to 4.x. One advantage of this is that you can use Outlook to tidy up your contacts and do stuff like mark numbers as landlines when they are marked as mobile numbers, etc. The above procedure should work fine. Unless you're me of course. Bloody Activesync wouldn't work with my C600 so I had to manually beam EVERY SINGLE CONTACT from my C500 to my C600 as my C500 no longer had network coverage and I needed my contacts over asap. Bummer but the Activesync / Outlook method should work fine for you.
Guest newtonmj Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Okay, thanks guys - looks like Outlook is the way to go. Point taken about taking the opportunity to clean the contact list up - infinitely faster than doing it on the phone. It's a shame the default Windows 'Address Book' is not sufficient, particularly given the alternative is to install what is already an over-bloated e-mail application nevermind the fact I only want a contacts list! Cheers, Mathew
Guest nart Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 for some reason when transferring to c600 it misses out the + on international numbers
Guest Baddass Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 is there any other way to do this other than outlook? I always used to use Orange Backup when changing between handsets, E200 > C500 for instance, but now that it's gone, are there any other alternatives? Also, are there any programs for backing up SMS messages?
Guest speedme Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 I also had a C500 and bought myself the new C600. What I did to transfer all contacts and SMS messages is : Install "Jeyo Mobile Extender for Outlook". This little program let's you backup contacts, email and SMS messages into Outlook. Then connect the C600 and make sure you have version 2.x of Jeyo (for WM5) and copy everything over to the C600. It's that easy ;)
