TomTom Mobile will work on the C550 but you would need to alter the registry for it to display properly.

The best option is to get the upgrade to version 5 and then install the 5.2 upgrade.

There will be a charge to upgrade to version 5 and as far as I know the reduced rate upgrade window has now closed.

??? I don't know what the registry change was?

I down loaded tom tom mobile latest version from tomtom.

(They warn it is only for current users) then I installed it acording to the web site instructions by copying it direct to the mini sd card via a card reader

Then I copied across the great_britian-maps that I had

then I activated it with a registration code from a tom tom one

but you could use your TT5 code

apparently you can use these codes

once, then again 7 days later, then again 6 months later

(obviously as long as you uninstall your maps from your other device)

So you had TomTom Mobile (the original version) and then used the 5.2 update from the TomTom site?

Is everything working ok?

It's interesting and technically it should work but it's the first I have seen someone doing this as normally people upgrade to V5 at a cost, the only difference for you is that your maps are out of date as such.

I had no version installed, I went to the tom tom site and just downloaded the "update" which is in fact the full copy of the program, without any maps.

I had an unused little black tom tom card with a product code

once the software was installed on the phone

as part of the TT startup routine it generated a device code and I went to the ttcode website and got my activation code.

with my bt gps every thing works hunky dory

I have not put on any speed camera or other poi
