I have just got off the phone with  Orange CS  I called about upgrading my SPV M2000 to the M5000, "I'm sorry but the M5000 is out of stock" ok so how much would it cost me to upgrade? "£250, but the prices are changing daily".  Do Orange want to keep customers, I've been a customer with them for nearly 10 years and they want £250.  My SPV M2000 this time last year only cost me £100.

Ask for your PAC code and threaten to leave, you will get a reduction in price. Got mine just before Xmas for nothing this way...

I've been with Orange for coming up 10 years also - have an original 0973 number which became 07973 of course (0976 followed then I think). Cue the Hovis advert music... I remember surprising friends by SMSing them later in 1996/97 - funny thing was most didn't have texting enabled on their accounts (£10 cost I seem to recall) to answer via text ! £2 a month for unlimited texts. Those were the days - texting limited to the Orange network also at the time. Cross network texting took a while after this.

I must admit I don't get 1000 cross network minutes and 200 included texts (!), I wonder if this person uses data through Orange - being the big money spinner these days, hence the subsidies on the phones that 'consume' data !

Apologies for rambling...

Just to clarify, the M5000 was not 'business only'. It may have simply been that Orange direct had stock issues and that the handsets were merely allocated for business connections. I am sorry that you have been misled by numerous individuals.

While we tend to do the same when stocks are low on 'business' handsets, I myself upgraded a teacher to an M5000 only a few weeks ago on a simple domestic upgrade.

In future, if Orange Direct are unable to supply your chosen handset, then I recommend popping into your local Orange Shop (preferably a 'Business Centre') and enquiring about stock levels of the phone that you want. Orange Retail Business Centres generally have a high allocation of such devices.

We are all on the same 'team'...

Regards,

Dave

So what i want to confirm who here is an orange customer and not a busniess customer and has the M5000... also how much did you get for it.... I was quoted £180 on a £30 contract

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

After initially being promised an M5000 "...in a week or so" back in October, I finally got my hands on one in January. I'm not a business customer, and Orange upgraded me for free...

I wish i could do that, again I've been with them for 10 years and for the past two years paying on average £35 a month, try to get a M5000 as an upgrade, £249 - not prepared to move on price at all. I'm going to ask them to cancel my contract tonight and I'll go to t-mobile and get one for £120 with 40mb of data off them instead. Its a shame as I'm not too sure of the t-mobile 3G coverage where I am

Keep Happy, I phoned orange two days ago to ask for a M5000, they said £200. My call usage is band 4 out of 5, £50 per month.

I said O2 would give me the phone for £100, they came back after talkingto customer services and offered my the phone for £14.99 - So i took it - It should turn up today!

I can differ wildy depending on who picks up the phone at the call centre - Just try a few more times and you'll get a deal!

I'm going to keep trying, they said I was a band 3, however thats my personal phone. I keep trying to explain that I'll be using this significantly more as my work phone is going onto the account as well from now on but they wont listen. I'll try again next week i think.

See the comments on this post for advice on how to extort a good upgrade deal out of the networks.

well none of that worked! In fact the price went up to £300 and he sent me my PAC code before I even asked for it ! Guess I'll leave it for a couple of months and see what happens with the price
