Guest Chimpanzee Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 Hello everyone. I'm sorry to say that i haven't visited MoDaCo for a while and i'm not really up to date on whats been going on in the PPC/Phone world. I currently own the SPV M2000 but my contract is coming to an end soon. I have looked at the M5000 as a potential upgrade but i found it a bit bulky. Can enyone suggest any other devices that i could upgrade to (Orange/O2 preferably). 3G would be good. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
Guest Confucious Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 I think (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) that the Universal (M5000) is the only 3G PPC. If you don't mind losing 3G (which is brilliant on the universal) then consider the Wizaerd (M3000) with keyboard or the Magician (M500) which is the smalles PPC. Horses for courses - all very good (check out the forums) - I prefer the power of the Universal (despite its size)
Guest Chimpanzee Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 Hi. Thanks for the advice. I've been looking at the M3000 but it's not on the orange website. Has it been discontinued? was there ever an M4000 or did they skip that one?
Guest fluffcat1 Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 Hi. Thanks for the advice. I've been looking at the M3000 but it's not on the orange website. Has it been discontinued? was there ever an M4000 or did they skip that one? As I understand it the m3000 won't be coming to the UK from orange. "Too Orangey for crows, just for me and my dog." Or something. Equivalent is the XDA mini S, MDA Vario, Qtek 9100 and Imate k-jam. Richard
Guest Confucious Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 Glad someone else answered coz I didn't know! I knew it was the vario and xda mini and looked in the wizard forum and found M3000 but didn't know it wasn't sold by Orange in the UK.
Guest Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 I'm in exactly the same position as Chimpanzee ;) My phone history is SPV to P900. I loved the customisable aspect of the SPV and the P900 made me greedy for touch-sensitive screens. So I'm now trying to pick between the Universal and the Wizard (I'm on T-Mobile so MDA-Pro and MDA Vario respectively). Their comparison feature is pretty poor, so are the only real diferences between the two (aside from physical dimensions) that the Universal has 3G? As a bit of background I do use web-browsing and email a lot, and would like to use Skype. So WiFi is a must have, and push-email is a "would-like-to-have".
Guest Confucious Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 http://www.tmobilephone.com/mda_vario.htm http://www.tmobilephone.com/mda_pro.htm Vario is quad band with 2.8" screen, Pro is Tri Band + 3G with a 3.6" screen which makes the full internet a lot more useable
Guest Chimpanzee Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 I ended up buying the XDA Mini S from O2. I am unimpressed by it and will probably be taking advantage of my 14 day money-back thing. besides other things, its a lot slower than the M2000 which makes it difficult to install 3rd party software. For the time being i'll probably stay with orange and wait for a new device to arrive.
