Guest Michael 1999 Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 Is there a way of installing HME files onto the storage card rather than into windows/application data/home? When I manually move the files from windows/application data/home and place them on the storage card, the homescreens won't work properly. Thanks
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 Homescreens will not work if placed on the storage card unless they are images only. The XML has to be in the Storage\Application Data\Home folder.

The homescreens I have downloaded from http://smartphone.kleinweder.ch/downloads/index.php work ok with the XML files on the storage card. I'd rather have the files on the starge card than the phone memory.
Guest SinisterJunkie Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 The homescreen files are pretty same and don't take up much space on your phone. Have you reloaded the homescreen after you moved the files (switch to a different homesceen or color scheme and then back again)? The Smartphone OS saves the homescreen to it's memory and only loads it when something is switched. This is done to improve preformance. If you have not reloaded your homescreen then you are still running it from memory.

Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes it can with WM5, with WM2003 I'm not sure. Install the homescreen normally. Copy the xml file from the Application Data folder to your desktop and open in an xml editor or in Wordpad (Notepad might corrupt the layout). Now search for any references to jpg files, and change the paths to \Storage Card\My Documents\file01.jpg and so on. Save the xml and copy the file to the Storage Card\My Documents folder, do the same with the jpg files that were installed in your Application Data folder, don't forget the background jpg. Delete those files from your Application Data folder after having them copied to the My Documents folder on your storage card. That's it. You now can select them also as homescreen. Better is copying all needed and modified files to your Storage Card\My Documents folder and uninstall the theme through the 'Remove Software' option in the settings on your phone. After a hard reset you can select your favorite homescreen right away again.
