Guest NightFox Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Having followed the directions in other threads, I've now got a "clean" Xda with none of the O2 stuff on it. However, I've realised that some of the stuff in \extended_rom\ is useful, e.g. the stuff to make Oulook support MMS. I just wondered if anyone know the functions of the other CAB files in \extended_rom\ ? I've done two for starters, can anyone else help to fill in the blanks? \CAB-Shortcut-MMS10JAVA5XX-VOICE-O2-31Oct05.CAB Installs MMS support for Pocket Outlook, as well as MIDLet Manager and Voice Dialling SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB Installs smart dialling - works like predictive text when you type a name from your contacts into the phone dialler - same as on Phone Edition. Guest blun Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 As detailed in this thread.. CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UNI_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB Removes default battery icon from the system tray. Not particularly useful!
Guest lekus Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 (edited) Signed_WIZ_O2UK_PIE_homepage.sa.CAB Sets the default Pocket IE homepage to something (probably an O2 page). Not useful. Signed_O2UK_103040101_RingTone.sa.cab I think this adds some extra ringtones, my Vario doesn't operate any differently with or without the t-Mobile version of this CAB installed. Signed_DiscoButton_16.sa.CAB Not sure, possibly sets/controls the behaviour of the branded top-right button. Vario has a similar DiscoButton CAB. PhoneLight_Skin_O2_WWE_1005.CAB Keypad skin? Possibly. Keypad skin could also be set in one of the other "customisation" CAB's though. Rilgsm_STK.sa.CAB Has 'gsm' in it, could be important. CAB-Customisation-O2UK-Wizard-01-05-05Oct05XML.CAB Probably installs and selects the O2 theme, colour scheme, etc. Signed_O2UK_Region_Customize.sa.CAB Could be configure the regional settings of the phone, i.e. language, currency, date and time format, that kind of thing. This would set up the phone for people in the UK without them having to do it themselves. Edited January 10, 2006 by lekus
Guest loftgroover Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 Hi, I have also done a reset before the O2 software installs, as expected this gets rid of all the cr@ppy software by not installing the CAB files. ;) However, as lekus noted this stops MMS working.... I have re-written the config.txt to install the following: Original: LOCK:Enabled CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_O2UK_103040101_RingTone.sa.cab CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_O2UK_exception.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_O2UK_Region_Customize.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_WIZ_O2UK_PIE_homepage.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_DiscoButton_16.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\STK_Service.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-Customization-O2UK-Wizard-01-05-05Oct05XML.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-Shortcut-MMS1-JAVA5XX-VOICE-O2-31Oct05.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\PhoneLight_Skin_O2_WWE_1005.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UA.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Rilgsm_STK.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_Version.sa.CAB HIDE:Enabled LOCK:Disabled CAB: \Extended_ROM\signed_Prodigy_o2AUI4_build26.cab Modified Config.txt : LOCK:Enabled CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_O2UK_103040101_RingTone.sa.cab CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_O2UK_exception.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_O2UK_Region_Customize.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_WIZ_O2UK_PIE_homepage.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_DiscoButton_16.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\STK_Service.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-Customization-O2UK-Wizard-01-05-05Oct05XML.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-Shortcut-MMS1-JAVA5XX-VOICE-O2-31Oct05.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_UA.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Rilgsm_STK.sa.CAB CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_Version.sa.CAB HIDE:Enabled LOCK:Disabled This gives a nice clean install without the O2 graphics and the MMS works on first Hard reset, but after a soft reset it looses it again   . If I run : CAB-Shortcut-MMS1-JAVA5XX-VOICE-O2-31Oct05.CAB using Total Comander the MMS reappears in Outlook, but dissapears if i do a soft reset..agggggghhhhh. I dont wat to have to keep running the MMS CAB to get my MMS to work!!! Why does WM5 not support MMS without the additional CABS?
Guest outside5 Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Hi all, I have just done a hard reset and not installed all the O2 stuff (yay) but now cannot do MMS or enter a name on the dialer (boo hiss). I have been looking through this thread, and can see I need to do something with a CAB - where (and how) do I do it on the phone? Cheers all. Paul
Guest Morninglight Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 (edited) I'm cleaning out my M3000 atm... you can check what's in the cab by downloading it from your Wizard to your PC. I used Totalcommander for pocketpc: http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm to copy the files from \Extended_ROM to my storagecard. Then I opened the Storagecard with Totalcommander on my PC with the WinCE Filesystem plugin: http://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm#filesys and copied the cab files to my pc, if you double click the cab in totalcommander it opens it up like a ZIP, then you can view whats actually in the files, there are some XML files which are "readable", just hit F3 'to open the viewer. if you see garbage, check the next one ;) This is an example of a part of the IE Favorites cab: <wap-provisioningdoc> <!-- Network Setting --> <!-- Favorite Setting --> <!-- Del favorite--> <characteristic type="Registry"> <nocharacteristic type="HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FavoritesEntries\MSN Mobile" /> <nocharacteristic type="HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FavoritesEntries\Pocket PC Web Guide" /> <nocharacteristic type="HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FavoritesEntries\WindowsMedia.com" /> <characteristic type="HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FavoritesEntries\Orange World" > <parm name="Icon" value="\Windows\orange16.bmp" datatype="string" /> <parm name="URL" value="wsp://wap.orange.nl/" datatype="string" /> <parm name="Order" datatype="integer" value="0" /> </characteristic> <characteristic type="HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FavoritesEntries\Nieuws & Weer" > <parm name="Icon" value="\Windows\orange16.bmp" datatype="string" /> <parm name="URL" value="wsp://wap.orange.nl/ deeplink.cfm?channel=nieuwsweer" datatype="string" /> The bottom part is where the actual link is added to the favs. Edited January 21, 2006 by Morninglight
Guest NightFox Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 Oh great... I've never had any problems with the MMS plugin for Pocket Outlook on my "clean" Xda Mini, which I installed from the CAB in \extended_rom\ - even after soft resets it was always there and worked fine. Until I did a hard reset last night that is. Like others here, I can re-install it from \extended_rom\, and succesfully send/receive MMS, but after every soft reset it just disappears again. I just can't fathom out what I did differently last time that kept it there all the time. Arghhhhh!
Guest NightFox Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 ...it gets worse - it also deletes any addition accounts I have set up in Pocket Outlook every time I reset.
