Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 In test, but you get the idea: http://www.Mobiholics.net You can log in with your MoDaCo login if you wish as the site is part of the new MoDaCo.network, and an account will automatically be created for you. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? ;) P
Guest brykins Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? ;) Thoughts - if it's half as helpful as this place then I'll be frequenting it. Comments - considering it's related to this place - how much overlap will there be in the phones section? Suggestion - I'd love (and in here too) a "View posts of last 24/48/72 hours" as well as "View New Posts" as sometimes I don't view anything all day, get an email that there is a new post in a topic I am sub'd to, view that and don't really want to view all the other new posts. If I then come back later, I only see posts since I went to see the sub'd group - all those before are lost from the New Posts list. Make sense? I know I can do it in individual goups, but what about globally? Also - any option to "hide" groups that I'm not interested in? Hide LG/Moto phones for example so I don't see the new posts in those groups?
Guest Jamma14 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) Agreed, if the community takes off like this one has, then it'll be a great place to visit too.:cheesy: I'm just wondering what browser you use Paul, as it's coming up as '?' on the mobiholics forum.:-k Also, I don't know what the plan is, whether moderators are moderators over the whole .network or what, but I'd be more than happy to give you a hand on mobiholics if you want. And one more thing: what other plans are there for the MoDaCo network, any other sites in the works? Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I hope there won't be too much overlap, as the difference between Windows Mobile and 'normality' is quite defined, and Mobiholics will be the place to discuss the networks. With regards to your suggestion, if you click 'view new topics' you should have an option to view topics active today / this week, and I can probably add more granularity to that menu? Hiding things you're not interested in is definitely valid, i'll look into it ;) P Thoughts - if it's half as helpful as this place then I'll be frequenting it. Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Here's hoping ;) I use Avant Browser (http://www.AvantBrowser.com), it's brilliant :D Moderators will be site specific generally (unless mods on one site want to help on another), so I will be recruiting Mobiholics mods :D The MoDaCo.network? Of course there's plans... I won't give too much away for now, but i'm very much looking forward to launching MCEasy.net, a Media Center community :D P Agreed, if the community takes off like this one has, then it'll be a great place to visit too.:cheesy: I'm just wondering what browser you use Paul, as it's coming up as '?' on the mobiholics forum.:-k Also, I don't know what the plan is, whether moderators are moderators over the whole .network or what, but I'd be more than happy to give you a hand on mobiholics if you want. And one more thing: what other plans are there for the MoDaCo network, any other sites in the works?
Guest Confused Stu Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Now, if we can get all Nokia owners to go onto your new site, find out all their IP addresses, then send an overload down their connections and burn down their houses when they sleep! All Nokia owners will die, Nokia will go out of business and Windows Mobile will rule the world!!! Or, alternatively, you could run Mobiholics up to become the foremost forum on the net to do with phones as MoDaCo has become. Your call, I guess, but I know which one I'd prefer....
Guest chucky.egg Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Yeah I second that - hiding "unwanted" forums (not burning down the houses of the mentally unwell) A few thoughts: 1) There are plenty of mobile phone forums, so how do you plan to set Mobiholics apart from the others? The relaxed, friendly Modaco style would be a good start, but possibly not enough on it's own. 2) "Nokia users" tend to be warez-hounds IMO (I know, a huge generalisation) so the Mods will have to be pretty sharp. 3) A process for Mods here to transfer future "non Windows phone chat" items to the appropriate forum on the other site would be cool, and might help drive up the user base. We don't seem to get so many these days, but there are always a few "How do I do X on my new Symbian?" threads I've just taken over the mobiles at work, so I'll definately be keeping an eye on the new place to see what goes on Oh, and watch out with MCEasy! Stelios has trademarked the word "Easy" and all other words that contain the letters E, A, S or Y. How about branding it orange just to wind him up?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 1) There are, but in my experience, i've never really wanted to be involved with them. I think the MoDaCo style, together with a good size readership that will hopefully cross pollenate from MoDaCo, will make it a place to be. That's not to mention the £500 that will be up for grabs for whoever refers the most (and best quality!) members... watch this space :D I'm always open to ideas on how to make Mobiholics number one though ;) 2) Usual rules apply... so yes, we'll need to keep on top of it. 3) That move functionality would be cool, but unfortunately it's a logistical nightmare. Instead, the 'Non Windows Phone Chat' section on MoDaCo will close, and become a link to Mobiholics. 4) MCEasy? Did think that, but I think i'll be OK :D P Yeah I second that - hiding "unwanted" forums (not burning down the houses of the mentally unwell) A few thoughts: 1) There are plenty of mobile phone forums, so how do you plan to set Mobiholics apart from the others?
