Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Vizzion.com have been in touch to let me know their 'Traffic Vizzion' application is now available for the UK! Full details can be found at http://www.Vizzion.com, and i've included their news below! ;) With a 2 week trial, and a definite 'cool' factor, it's worth a look if you live in or commute to the 11 cities across the UK that the application supports (Reading area, Cardiff & Swansea areas, 9 Greater London areas, Southampton & Winchester areas, Glasgow area, Edinburgh area, Newport area, Nottingham area and the Sheffield area). P Smartphone Software Helps Drivers Keep an Eye on Traffic in the UK Vizzion, Inc. has announced that it's popular North American service, "Traffic Vizzion" (pronounced "vision"), which enables drivers to see images from thousands of traffic cameras on their smartphone, is now available in the UK. A driver using Traffic Vizzion can pull up images from cameras along their intended route, and spot traffic congestion or poor road conditions well in advance, giving them a chance to take a different route. Utilized on a regular basis, Traffic Vizzion can result in considerable savings in time, fuel and frustration. Drivers whose smartphones can connect to a GPS can go one step further and make use of the unique "Watch Road Ahead" feature in Traffic Vizzion. With access to the position and direction information from the GPS, Traffic Vizzion uses Patent Pending technology to automatically show images from cameras several miles up ahead, giving the driver enough warning to get off at the exit preceding a traffic jam. It's like having your own personal traffic reporter! Traffic Vizzion is initially available in 11 cities across the UK. Traffic Vizzion is targeted at commuters, business travellers, long-haul drivers, delivery drivers, holiday-makers, or anyone else who needs to see road conditions in advance. Traffic Vizzion is also available in over 40 cities and metro areas in North America. For more information and a fully functional free two week trial, visit www.vizzion.com
Guest ccsnet Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 I still think the support for the UK is not brill... I'd like to see it expanded as this serisly looks like a cool app and could take on Traffic.tv if they did. Terran
Guest AaronW Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Tried it on my C600 and the screen is too small. Cool app but not for SVGA ;)
Guest pete1312 Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Tried it on my C600 and the screen is too small. Cool app but not for SVGA ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Too small for C550 also, and Nottingham just shows "Image Temporarily Unavailable". Unavailable for 2 days so far!
Guest A.Hughes Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Whats the point of an application that just shows stills!!!! The write up implies live camera shots, which would be beneficial and worth the GPRS bill, but i dont get anything other than stills which can change within minutes, meaning what looks clear could be gridlocked by the time i pass by, couldnt even see my vehicle as i passed a camera on the application lol Has anyone actually got live shots instead of stills??
Guest vizzion Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 Hello, A QVGA version is in final test - if you'd like to be notified when this is released contact [email protected]. The Nottingham traffic control centre is moving offices and the Nottingham cameras are all currently offline. They should be back online sometime this week. We'll be adding more regions as the feeds become available - if you have a specific request go here to Availability and click on the "request it" link, and we'll notify you when that region goes online. The update frequency of cameras varies from region to region - it could be once every few seconds or it could be once every few minutes. We always display the latest image that is available for a particular camera. Chris Cooper
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Hi Vizzion I am interested in this but I like A.Hughes am a bit dubious about how useful stills are no matter how fast they are updated. Do you guys have a promo video or something like that showing Traffic Vizzion working for real :??:
