So I picked up a free upgrade from my C500 to a C600 becuase I was talked into it on the phone by an Orange guy when asking about something on my current contract and it arrived today.

The C500 I have used for the last 14 months has been a cracking phone and I have almost no complaints about it but I would really like something that uses WM5.0 now.

The C600 looks great but I just want to make sure I am not doing something stupid by keeping it (I have 7 days to send it back if i want to). I absolutely love the QVGA screen and of course it runs WM5.0 so thats all good.

The question is, is it the best out there with my requirements:

- WM5.0 essential

- QVGA essential

- Handset can not be HUGE PDA size but could be a little bigger than the C600 i guess

- I dont mind waiting 2-3 months if something is on the horizon but i dont want to wait 6+ months

Is the C600 my best bet?

To meet your requirements the only devices available now or within the 2month horizon are the SPV C600 or the HTC Tornado devices like the I-Mate SP5 or SP5m. The main difference between the SPV C600 and SP5/SP5m is that the latter has wifi but do you really need that? Is there any particular reason why you doubt the C600 will satisfy you as your C500 did?

i pondered ove this issue for a while... after using my m2000 for a year, i got a bit annoyed with the fiddling needed to use it as a phone... ie not really suitable for 1 handed use etc...

so i upgraded early to a c600... but then i got anooyed at the lack of software available... lack of wifi, small (although very nice) screen...

so basically, i've put it on ebay, and i should get at least £200 for it, i also got a MDA vario from ebay for £250, so for £50, i managed to get the phone i wanted, but that orange wouldnt let me have!!

every review i've seen of the vario says its the best pda phone available..

Apart from wifi neither of you has given any reason.... ;)

The nipple (and generally getting used to the new OS / lack of available software) was getting me down last night but I'm happy to stick with the C600 for the 7 days grace period. Do any of the WM05 Smartphones have a rocker like the C500 ?

hehe well its because of the stupid CS quality I have had with orange and the whole "when is the C600 coming out?" scenario

wifi is - for me - more of a "must have" thing for work/personal ;)

it has more ROM space

you also get a good bundled piece of software, anti virus being one of them

It's faster

Just a really nice phone :D

Getting the phone free on upgrade at this time of year is nice though ;)

Am I right in remembering that there have been problems with the iMate joystick ?

Has this affected you yet ?

IMO the joystick on the imate 5 series is awesome... nice and sturdy

how often are you going to be using wifi on your phone?

to me its just not a requirement!

Thats easy to say when you havent used it.

I diddnt even know it had wifi till I got it and boy oh boy is it fun.

The internet on the device through wifi works a good 4-5 times faster than when connected through gprs...

How about doing this.

Keep your free C600 and sell it on ebay. You should get £160-180 for it. Sell your C500 on ebay for £50-60. Buy a sim free SP5 or SP5m for about £300. So if you're lucky, a brand spanking new iMate with Wi-Fi will cost you only £60 contract free and you can keep your current Orange contract.

Just a thought (and what I'm likely to do).
