Guest lee c Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Hi I have been lurking for the last week or so. I now have a couple of questions. I have an SPV M500. Very pleased with it. I have been searching, but havent really worked everything out yet. When I download software/ apps, what format do I need? Getting asked which one to download to my PC. Mips SH3 ARM. When I install said above software I think I need to plug in the sync cable and double click the EXE on the PC desktop. It will then push the download into the PPC? I know you can install software in the mem card with some cab software. I assume that cab software gets installed in the PPC. I have downloaded a cab file wmplnch how do i install that. It doesnt have an exe inside. Can I create shortcuts on the front "welcome type screen" along with the defaults like . When I come to reg editing. Will i need some software to access the registry. Is there a FAQ for my device. Thats it for a while. Thanks in advance Lee

Cab files are installed simply by transferring the cab file (BEFORE extracting it) onto the device (or onto the storage card) using Activesync before running the file on your Pocket PC. It will then auto install. Stay tuned for a Pocket PC Phone FAQ. Hope this helps and welcome to the site! ;)

Guest Pondrew Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Yep to the shortcuts although you'll need to look into Today screen design/customisation (something I haven't done but know is possible). And yep, you'll need a registry editor for Pocket PC.
Guest Samsonite Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 (edited) to get application shortcuts directly on your Today screen, you need to install a Launcher program such as tdLaunch or cLaunch. Do a google or search thru the freeware sites and you will find a few of varying qualities... I use cLaunch and have two rows of shortcuts on the Today screen for things like file Explorer, ActiceSync, TCPMP, MSN Messneger etc etc etc... Very useful but dont forget the possibility of accidently activating apps if the screen isnt locked... and that's a whole different ballgame - and set of threads. (more a whole weave by now...!)
