Guest Sonicr360 Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Hi All Recently acquired a Windows Mobile 5.0 O2 XDA EXEC - well pleased, but NOT pleased about the lack of backward compatability of software that was on my PC2002 device! So feel a bit let down - I tried google to find software written for the OS, but I do not appear to be getting much joy! Does anyone have any links to some cool apps, games, software? Also, is there a way to make software backward compatible for WM5.0 ? Thanks, Simon
Guest Sonicr360 Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 Well 74 views and NOT a single reply! If I am the only WM5 user out there, I could PROBABLY understand it...... As I am not, maybe this is clearly the wrong site to be posting on. For those who have WM5, good luck to us all! For those who have read this topic and do not own a WM5 device, suggest you DONT upgrade if you want to retain your current PPC apps. Shame really!
Guest Jex Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 I've never had any problem with WM5 and backward compatability! In fact, it's more backward compatible that 2003SE becasue WM5 can run both PPC and SP programs...
Guest Sonicr360 Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Jex Maybe you can suggest some apps? I have gone through a HUGE list of items I have owned and hardly any work, or do not function correctly as expected. Also, as the API is completely different to PPC2002/03, its highly likely that apps will not function as expected. So, anything you have please let me know and I can compare! Thanks for the reply by the way Simon
Guest Jex Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 It would be easier to make a list of apps that haven't run... Every single app that I've tried has run, and this isn't just modern apps, this is things like Flite (old vox program) from way back when.
Guest MECX Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Isnt it the VGA screen on the EXEC that causes problems with the apps rather than the OS?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 It's actually both, depending on the age of the application in question if it really old apps may not work but also the VGA can cause problems. It's more what the autor of the app did not envision in the future rather than blame a new device.
