Guest Wonderboy Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Hi, I got my M500 today and was reading through the manual, apparently if you press the power button it turns "the device" off (the screen goes blank but the phone still takes calls, it also says "to turn the phone off, hold the button down for two seconds". I did this and all it does is turn the backlight on or off. Is there a trick to actually turning the phone off (as in caput, no phonecalls get through) or do you have to keep it on 24/7? Would appreciate a fast response if possible as I would like to turn my phone off before I go to bed (soon). Thanks
Guest Pondrew Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Welcome to the community! Unfortunately Pocket PC Phones prior to Windows Mobile 5 couldn't be turned off completely. Your SPV M500 (assuming that's the model you've got?) having Windows Mobile 2003SE can only be put in standby by pressing the power button. Holding down the power button turns off the backlight as you've found. The closest you'll get to turning the device off will be to turn it to flight mode by pressing the screen where the signal indicator is and selecting flight mode.
Guest vodkagirl001 Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 yup I have found you are unable to actually turn the phone ''off'' so to speak, but to just turn it to a blank screen so it looks off and it is in effect ''locked'' so you can still receive calls and txt but for you to use the phone you have to select the power button to turn it ''on'' for use. I just makesure that eveytime I am sleeping I plug the phone in to charge, that way I will never loose battery, oh and I just put it on silent as well so I don't get disturbed, but be carefull as this will also put your alarm on silent!
Guest chucky.egg Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 If you want alarms to go off the device needs to be on, but could be in Flight Mode (so no calls or texts). You can use PPC Profiles Pro to automatically turn flight mode on/off at set times of the day. If you want to properly turn the device off you can remove the battery cover, and then put it back on. The device stays off until you press the power button, but obviously the alarms wont go off!

Missed a flight due to it once. Use something like "StopTime" that is smart enough to notice that the phone is muted instead.
