Hi everyone, I've just signed up after a long time lurking and have a couple of questions about the imate SP5.

I presently use a Sony Ericsson T637 mobile and an HP iPaq hx4700 PDA. I'd like to move to a single device and am considering the SP5. I know I'll be moving to a smaller screen and slower processor compared to the iPaq, but I'm looking for one small device that I will always carry with me. Right now, the PDA lives in my briefcase when I'm not using it so it really only gets used at work and around the house.

Two questions for those who may have a T637/T630 and an SP5:

1) how is the audio quality, specifically the loudness in the earpiece, on the SP5 compared to the T637. I find the T637 to be excellent in that I can hear it under any conditions and often have to turn the volume down a click or two. With my old Nokia 6100, I had to always keep it turned up and pressed against my ear to hear most callers. How does the SP5 compare?

2) I'm also concerned about RF quality. Our networks in North America aren't as dense as the European networks that I've experienced and RF performance can be an issue. The T637 is quite good, especially with the addition of the 850 MHz band that the Nokia didn't have. I've seen mixed reviews of the SP5's RF performance.

The SP5 looks like the perfect phone for my needs but I would hate to move to something that didn't perform at least as well as my current phone.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The SP5 is a good phone and has very good sound , clear and loud enough as well.I do not have the phone on full volume , it also depends on the network you use to the quality of the sound.

the signal is better than my old phones normally in the underground parking under my house on my old SPV C550 there is no signal , but on the SP5 i have 1 bar on my wifes nokia the signal breaks up during the call, mine stays ok , we both have the same network as well. ;)

absolutly ;)

its the same in general for all SPV range (C500 being one) - I own an sp5m and quality is very good for sound and other things :D

Thanks very much for your replies. It sounds like there shouldn't be any problems for me leaving the T637 behind (especially since the joystick has started acting up on it!).

I'd still like to hear comments from anyone who has used both the T637/T630 and the SP5 and could comment first hand on the sound and RF quality differences.

Thanks again.

I had a T630, the signal with the SP5 is as good as anything, on-par if not better. The sound quality is good, a friend has a W800 and says the speakerphone is better on the SP5 when he heard it.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll pick picking up an SP5 shortly...

I had a T610 about 2yrs ago (its reasonably similar to the T630) and it and the SP5 and it different leagues. The T630 is a phone, the SP5 is a smartphone, and has the features to show it.

The Sony had fine audio quality and everything, but I think the SP5 is better, and I would definately choose it over the T630 anyday. They are similar in size, and the slightly larger SP5 more than makes up with it with its features and gorgeous screen ;)
