Guest newtonmj Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 (edited) Hi all, I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to format my unbranded 256MB miniSD card in my Orange C600. I've installed Binary's Task Manager 2.1 and whilst it installs okay, and manages all its other functions, it says 'Error while formatting the card' when I try and format it. Could this have anything with it being unsigned, and thus not allowed to do something such as format an SD card? Or should it not have installed in the first place if my phone was locked down? The card works fine - it's just that since I formatted it via WindowsXP I thought it might be wise to format it in the phone to ensure 100% compatibility. According to the Panasonic SD formatter many OSs are not able to format the card completely to the spec... Still, having said that the Panasonic formatter managed to format it okay so perhaps I should be content with that... Would still like to to do it on the phone though.. :| Mathew Edited January 11, 2006 by newtonmj
Guest Tech Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 well... make sure that its compatible with the phone - miniSD cards from kingston are not compatible whilst from Crucial memory are. secondly, usually when you insert a miniSD card in the phone - the OS will ask you if you wish to format it.
Guest newtonmj Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 I'm pretty sure it's compatible as it does actually work.. You're probably wondering therefore why I want to format it? Well, I just want to be certain it's in its most optimum state! (when formatting it with XP both FAT and FAT32 options are available - either option appears to result in a card that 'works'). With regards to the phone asking to format it I believe that only occurs if it's unformatted... Mathew
Guest Griff_FFOC Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 (edited) I just put my 256 sandisk card from my C500 into my C600 and the C600 doesn't seem to find it. It's not there in "Explore" on the PC or the Filemanager on the phone. The card works in the C500, and the card that comes with the C600 works in it ok. Strange one, any one got any ideas? EDIT: I can't delete this post, so a quick note to say it's ok now. Switched off, swapped it out and back in, restart and it's picked it up. Edited January 12, 2006 by Griff_FFOC
