Cingular 2125 - 2 questions re: storage memory

I'm having a devil of a time trying to clear up space for GoodLink on my 2125.

1. I can't delete a 1.1Mb file in \Windows called "Cingular Tune .wav" - it's on the ROM, and incaccessible. Are there any hacks to delete ROM files and not have them reappear after a reset?

2. I've been trying to install this onto the phone in order to have email and attachments go to the storage card. I have the *** registry editor, and in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MAPI there is currently no key/value. Can someone walk me through installing the keys indicated in that link? Since I'm typing them in manually and not importing them, I'm not sure whether to enter them as values or as keys.

2. I'm trying to install GoodLink, and it says I need to free up another 700+Kb to have enough space. I can't find ANY non-ROM files to delete to free up that much space. It just seems ridiculous on a phone with 64Mb of memory, but they seemed to have put it all towards RAM and not to storage memory. Does anyone have any advice on what I can delete - and HOW I can delete files that keep returning errors, saying that they are system/ROM/read-only - to get enough room for GoodLink??

That is really quite strange you can't delete that cingluar wav file, I just deleted it last night, did it from windows explorer though, if thats a help.

Maybe uninstall bubble breaker or solitare? somithg you don't use? Not sure, seems I have maybe about 11mb storage free and 24ish system free right now, though I do have a few things installed.

I've also heard people talk about replacing the cingular/windows startup and shutdown pictures with smaller/ black and white versions that take up less space.

I'm not really familiar with goodlink or what it does though.

Good luck

There's was an issue with 2000 of the initial 2125's (Lucky you). HTC flashed them incorrectly. You need to reflash you handset. Call Tech Support and they will guide you through the process...or so they say.

Good luck. I know it's frustrating. FYI, all of the current ones that are out now have been reflashed with the correct version.

From what I've read, all 2125's shipped prior to 12/22 only have 12.2mb (i believe...i know it's less that 13mb) of free memeory and 13mb are necessary to setup GoodLink. So as GPS said you will need to reflash your phone.

thanks for this scoop. this re-flash did indeed do the trick.

still very interesting how these ROM files are completely impossible to delete.

How does Goodlink (V4.7 I presume) run on the 2125?

Does it eat a lot of memory?

I found on my Audiovox SMT5600, Goodlink runs fine, but I have troubles if I run Google Maps or Windows Media Player - often I have to reboot first.

Hi GPS, thanks for the info. Is there an easy way to tell if a particular unit has the older flash or not?

It runs a lot better on the 2125 than the SMT5600 (which I had before). I have all rrunning fine, however, just having an occaisonal out of storage memory problem now (don't know what it means)

Any ideas on how to install Goodlink onto a storage card (to run from there)?

I have an SP5m and have suffered recurring low memory errors after my intial Goodlink install..

Thx!
