Vario Will Not Sync Contacts

Hi,

My friend just got a brand new Vario and has a brand new PC.

We've just done an ActiveSync and while Calendar items seem to have synced fine from device to PC, no contacts have gone from the phone to Outlook.

As a test we added a new contact in outlook (on PC), which also didn't make it onto the device, following a subsequent sync.

The sync completes ok and doesn't hang as per other contacts related posts I have read.

I've tried looking though all the settings but can't seem to find anything that would help.

We have the following setup

Outlook 2000

ActiveSync 4.1

XP Home Edition

TMobile MDA Vario

I'm wondering if it's because Outlook is getting on a bit, but as I say Calendar entries are fine.

Sorry if this has already been covered but I did check through all posts under the Wizard section and couldn't find anything

Thanks for your time

This might sound obvious so apologies in advance but have you actually told Active Sync to do the contacts? The reason I say this is that by default my contacts weren't sync'd either, I got everything else first time but not contacts.

Bizarrely I found it wasn't turned on, to check it connect up the mda until AS detects it and then look in Active Sync\Tools\Options\ and make sure there is a tick next to Contacts.

Hopefully it's that simple for you too! ;)

You could try installing Outlook 2002 from the CD that came with your Vario to see if that helps. Personally the only problems I have had with ActiveSync and my Vario were when I was using version 4.0 and the leaked beta of 4.1. Since installing the latest version of AS I've had no problems whatsoever.

I had exactly the same problem as you with my Vario. It drove me mad! It turned out that it wasnt turned on in the options in AS on my PC. It is probably greyed out in the Wizard, but turn it on on AS Options (even if you turned it on in the initial setup routine).

It takes a while for the first sync, mine for 150 contacts took a couple of mins, but works perfect now.

Good luck! ;)

Thank you all for your responses.

You were right guys, for some reason when we tried again last night the contacts had been unchecked and weren't part of the sync.

We could have sworn the night before it was!!!!!

A quick look in options and checking the tick box and it's worked a treat even with Outlook 2000!!!!

Many thanks for such speedy replies!!
