ActiveSync 4.0 USB Connection Trouble ?

I've been having problems with my AOL browser dropping its connection while I've had my C600 connected to the PC. There are many other threads detailing members' problems with AS connections to their devices. A quick Google found this which I don't think has been mentioned on MoDaCo before :

In some specific cases, Windows Mobile device connectivity to a Windows PC running Microsoft ActiveSync 4.0 may experience connection problems. This document will describe the known issues, and how you may resolve these issues.

Would've been nice if these problems were mentioned first, or downloaded with AS4.

I still get probs with 3.8, mainly phone/adsl modem clashes, it's nice to know that the Nokia data suite has the same probs.

I too have the AOL problem. It's a real bitch! I have to restart my computer to get connection again, whilst making sure that I am not active syncing.

This means I do not sync as regularly as I would like because restarting my computer can get tedious.

Haven't had the chance to read the guide yet and attempt to fix the problem. On the other hand, if they are already aware of the problem they had better release a fix. I'm clearly no expert but this looks like a howler to me.

Where have you seen that Nokia data suite has the same problems? All my friends who use Symbian phones tell me they never have any problems syncing and laugh like hell when tell them about my AS4 problems.

It would be nice to have some ammo to return fire with!

I spent 6 painful months trying to use the Nokia Data Suite - proprietary formats, crude data storage, and a compulsory Bluetooth connection implementation that made my teeth bleed. Added to that the difficult phone OS update (anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months return to based for the 6600 at the time) and I couldn't lurch to MSFT based smart phones fast enough. Admittedly this was around a year ago...

I was impressed with the "simplicity" of syncing MSFT devices under the C500 and Activesync v3.x...but now I'm frustrated again. Activesync (4.x) is fine when it works but when it doesn't it's a single point of failure...

Updated - 1st February:

I gave up on trying to use the USB connection to provide AS4 access and shifted to Bluetooth. When I tried this with a Nokia 6600 and their data suite previously it was a nightmare. Under XP SP2, usung a TDK usb adaptor and AS4, it's a doodle! To be honest I wouldn't go back to usb for AS4.x connection now and certainly not until MSFT fixes the current bugs in the implementation.
