Guest newbie1 Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 Hello everyone, I need a little help to understand what is possible with bluetooth vs WiFi. I'm planning on turning all the hardware in my house completely wireless so only the power plug I will only need connected to my laptop. I know bluetooth is mainly for headsets and wireless keyboards when it comes to pocket pc phones and MS mobile phones. I also know Wifi is mainly for internet access over a larger area. However what I need to know about both is... :?: I am going to buy a WiFi wireless hard drive where I will keep most of my movies and mp3s. I will want to access all of my files over WiFi on my laptop. I assume that will be possible. I basically want to be able to open a movie or mp3 on the wireless Hard Drive without ever copying it to my laptop first. Can I do that? Also, if I have a WiFi capable pocket pc, will the same thing be possible? Can I do the same thing over bluetooth or is that at all not possible? Thanks early for all the replies! ;)
Guest moosery Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 bluetooth can in theory be used to network, but it's not really that good, and the range can be frustrating. I'd recommend using wifi, get a good router (eg linksys WRT54GS) instead of using the laptop if you have more than one PC. That way you dont need the laptop to be on all the time. Not sure about your hard drive question - I guess the answer is yes, but cant really say for sure.
