Hi,

My 14 month old c500 has stopped syncing over USB. The connected PC fails to recognise that a device has been attached. The same is true if I put the phone in "modem" mode.

It will however accept a charge over USB from the laptop (and from the AC adapter), so the connector itself is at least partially functional. It will also sync with my exchange server over GPRS and with my laptop over bluetooth, suggesting that it isn't a higher-level software issue - perhaps USB hardware or low-level USB driver in the phone.

I've tried:

hard resetting (several times)

Different versions of activesync (3.8 and 4.1)

Different laptops

Different USB cables (all of which work with my new I-mate SP5).

It has only ever had Orange-sourced ROM updates and seems to have stopped syncing "out of the blue".. perhaps it knew it was about to be replaced with a newer model...

Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Cheers,

Dan.

Dry joint in the USB connector? Maybe one of the signal pins has a dry joint but the power /earth pins are OK. Try wiggling the cable slightly in the phone when connected to a computer to check. Easy fix if it is a dry joint.

I had exactly the same problem. Activesync just stopped working. Weird! :??:

I did come up with a partial, "low-tech" fix though. I can still use the USB cable to swap files between my computer and my SMT 5600. I just deleted the partnership I set up, and simply connect my phone to my computer as "Guest". Like I said, it works for swapping files (I like to add new songlists to my phone pretty frequently), but it still won't sync, contacts, calendar, etc.

I suspect it has something to do with the software (tried AS 3.7.1, 3.8 and 4.0), and not just the USB. I tried syncing via IR and exactly the same thing happens...starts connected, checks for updates, then drops the connection.

I read people working around this by syncing via bluetooth. Guess I'll try that next.

Anyway, hope someone out there could offer a "complete" fix...
