Guest MitchellO Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Have you entered your WEP key? (Assuming you have WEP enabled)

I have been able to narrow the problem down to a DNS issue with WRT55AG. This router's DHCP service feeds its IP address as the first DNS (DNS 1) and the subsequent DNSes are from the ISP. All my computers at home have no problem with this setup as they query the subsequent DNSes for name resolution., It appear to me that the Qtek only queries DNS 1 to resolve names and stops there. If I use the IP address of a known web server in the internet I can connect with no problem. I'm currently trying to figure out how to configure this router so that it does not configure itself as the 1st DNS. I have been in touch with the Linsys support folks and have posted my problem in the DSLReport forum. Btw, my Qtek works fine at work where I have a BEFSX41 router and a Cisco AP. You can verify if you have the same problem by running "ipconfig /all" from a DOS prompt from computer running Windows and looking at the IP address of the first DNS listed. Btw, does anyone know of a tool similar to PocketDHCP for Smartphones. The Qtek Connection Status only lists the MACs and IP addresses of the phone, but it does not list the IPs or MACs of the DNS, Gateway, Mask etc, etc. A tool similar to PocketDHCP can be of of big help when trying to figure out network problems. I hope this helps. EDIT: DNS Problem solved. I downgraded the firmware of my WRT55AG at home from version 1.04 dated 06/2003 to version 1.02 dated 03/2003 and the Internet browsing problems I had with my Qtek are solved. The DHCP service of my router now sends my ISP's DNSes as DNS 1 and DNS 2. Btw, the Linksys site is wrong as it lists the available firmware version as 1.20 instead of 1.02. My 0.02: The failure of the Qtek 8310 not looking up subsequent Domain Name Servers is a bug. Edited January 18, 2006 by tamanaco

My router is a BEFW11S4, so the firmware wouldnt be the same. d u reckon there will be a ROM update from qtek to solve this issue or am i gna have 2 find a work around solution with my router??? i'm unsure of the current firmware but i will check to see which version it is. the onli firmware i can find for it is version 1.52.02. maybe this will solve it maybe not. thanks phil

If the first DNS IP listed is that of the router and that router is not an actual Domain Name Server, then this might be your problem. From a PC running Windows you can also use tools like WindDHCP to look at the characteristics of the IP network that you're connected. Before changing the firmware on your router, I'd first make sure that this is not a DHCP problem. If it is, then I'd try different configurations in the DHCP setup page of the router. Also, make sure that if you have a DSL/Cable modem (separated from your router) that this modem is not enabled to be a DHCP server.
